How to make an iron man helmet in a few days yourself? Very simple!
It is necessary
Cardboard (corrugated, a box from a TV / microwave oven, etc. is suitable), a pencil, a stationery knife, scissors, a glue gun and rods (I bought at the fix price), car putty, primer, paint in two colors, epoxy resin, printer, Pepakura Viewer program, model reamer for FOAM (this is important because other reamers are designed for paper models and are not suitable for cardboard), engraver or hand jigsaw, masking tape
Instructions
Step 1
You need to open your scan in the program and print it on plain paper. Then cut out all of your pieces of paper and trace each piece on the cardboard. Please note that some details must be on both sides, and in the flat pattern they are indicated once. For example, the detail I have highlighted. Just flip it over and circle it again. Some details are underneath others to form volumetric details. They need to be circled on the cardboard a little more than it is. Such parts should not be glued into the joint, but under each other.
Step 2
When you have cut everything out, the most crucial stage comes. Using the same program, glue all your parts together. To do this, in the program, move the mouse cursor over any face and the program will show what it connects to.
Step 3
After gluing, you need to reinforce your helmet. Mix the epoxy with the hardener (included with the resin) according to the instructions. Use a brush to paint it over the model. The cardboard model needs to be soaked well to get as strong as possible. Leave the helmet to dry completely overnight. Do not forget about safety when working with epoxy! Be sure to wear a respirator and gloves to avoid getting the glue on your skin.
Step 4
Now that your model is completely dry and stronger, you need to apply a thin layer of automotive putty to it in order to hide all the unevenness of the cardboard and prepare the model for further painting. You can apply two thin coats of putty, but before applying the second, be sure to sand the model with fine sandpaper.
Step 5
So, if your model is dry, covered with everything you need, even and smooth, then it's time to prime it. It is most convenient to do this with an aerosol primer, but you can also use an ordinary one, simply by applying it with a brush. We leave to dry.
Step 6
Now painting. We paint first one part, then another. For example, first the mask, then everything else. This should be done so that the border between the colors is clear. It is convenient to separate one from the other using masking tape.
