Glass is an absolutely versatile material that is widely used in the manufacture of interior items. Not only dishes are made from it, but also furniture, lighting fixtures, paintings and panels. Despite the fact that any glass product can break, it can be given a second life by using the shards in decoration.
Tableware decoration
The most uncomplicated, but at the same time very beautiful, that can be decorated with the help of fragments, are vases, candlesticks, trays. To create them, both colored glass fragments and transparent ones are useful.
Before starting work, be sure to wear rubber gloves to protect yourself from possible cuts and avoid allergies to the chemical components contained in the glue.
The product is based on an old vase or flowerpot. A pattern is marked on its surface, which must be laid out from the fragments. Using a tool called a scraper, a layer of ceramic glue is applied to the surface of the product. The fragments are spread on it. After the glue dries, the holes between the glasses are sealed with putty for tiles or cement for mosaics, and the excess is carefully removed with a damp cloth. If transparent glass was used in the manufacture, you can decorate it with special acrylic paint on glass.
In the same way, you can decorate not only dishes, but also frames for photographs, mirrors and paintings, flower pots, old caskets and boxes for needlework, and even the tops of tea and coffee tables.
Panels and paintings
In addition to simple and uncomplicated decoration, broken glass can be used in more complex crafts, for example, in panels or paintings. To do this, you need a fiberboard sheet of a suitable size, broken colored and transparent glass, glue, acrylic paints, gouache or ink.
First, the fiberboard sheet is covered with a thick layer of acrylic paint. You can use one shade, or you can apply several. The paint will act as a background. After it dries, a sheet of fiberboard is inserted into the frame of future paintings or panels.
Further, on the panel, using a stencil, or by hand, the contours of the conceived pattern are drawn, they are circled twice with gouache or ink and colored fragments are glued that match in color. Transparent splinters are glued to the background area and the product is allowed to dry.
Additional materials
In addition to broken glass, additional materials can be used to decorate interior items. They can be river or sea shells, beads or beads of different sizes, walnut shells, pumpkin and watermelon seeds, seeds from peaches and apricots, dry twigs, leaves and flowers. A competent combination of these materials will help create unique pieces with a special mood.
