People who are fond of historical restoration create for themselves exact copies of the costumes of the era in which they are interested. This takes a lot of time, effort and money. If you want to recreate the costume for just one evening - for example, for a masquerade or themed party, you should not go into detailed copying. Make a simplified version of the garment that just creates the look you want. So, for a hero's costume, you can make a "toy" helmet from papier-mâché.
It is necessary
- - paper;
- - glue;
- - paint;
- - Knitting.
Instructions
Step 1
Find a helmet base. It should be a hard, rounded object. Its diameter should correspond to the diameter of the head of the person who will be wearing the helmet. A globe, a ball, a five-liter plastic bottle will do. Since the heroic helmet has a pointed tip, a nozzle of the same shape must be made on the “blank”. Sculpt it out of plasticine and just place it on top.
Step 2
Find papier-mâché paper. It should be thin enough, about the size of printer paper. It is better not to take the newspaper - it is too loose, besides, the printing ink will create a dirty background that will be difficult to paint over. For the top layer of papier-mâché, use paper napkins. Tear all the paper into 2x2 cm pieces.
Step 3
Pour water into a bowl and dip a sixth of paper (excluding napkins) there. It should get very wet. On the base for the craft, draw the shape of the bottom edge of the helmet - it should be longer in the back than in the front. Lubricate the disc with some greasy ointment to make it easier to remove the helmet after it dries.
Step 4
Start spreading the softened paper in an even layer. Adjacent pieces should slightly overlap each other at the edges. Leave no gaps between fragments. Put the second layer in the same way and grease with PVA glue or paste. To do this, it is best to use a soft squirrel hair brush or a foam sponge. Rinse the instrument under running water immediately after use.
Step 5
Lay out 7 layers of paper, gluing every second. Leave the craft to dry for 3-5 days.
Step 6
At this time, prepare the rest of the helmet. For example, you can make a nasal - a plate that protects the hero's nose. It can be cut out of cardboard or made from papier-mâché. In the second case, make an impression of the nose using sculptural plasticine and paste over it with paper according to the technology described above. The mesh should be attached to the back and sides of the helmet. It can be crocheted from a metallized thread.
Step 7
Remove the dried helmet from the mold. Glue the nose piece to it with pieces of paper. Make holes along the bottom edge with an awl and insert the mesh into them. Color the helmet. Use silver acrylic paint for this. Spray it with a spray can. To make the coating even, make 2-3 layers, each time waiting for the previous layer to dry.
