Hunters are well aware of the method of catching a fox using a special device - a decoy. In its manufacture there are secrets that allow you to deceive such an intelligent and careful beast.

A decoy for a fox can be made from wooden planks and a thin elastic band
A decoy for a fox can be made from wooden planks and a thin elastic band

It is necessary

  • - wooden planks
  • - thin rubber
  • - knife with a short sharp blade
  • - strong thread

Instructions

Step 1

A decoy is a simple device capable of making sounds that attract a fox. And this animal can only be interested in the voices of animals and birds on which it hunts. Otherwise, the fox will not leave its shelter: it leaves it only with the aim of looking for food. Therefore, the most effective decoys are those that imitate the cry of a wounded, exhausted hare or the squeak of a mouse.

Step 2

A decoy that emits a sound corresponding to the squeak of a mouse is made of durable wood. The best choice is maple. Two plates are cut from this material, the width of which is 1 cm, the length is 5 cm, and the thickness is 0.5 cm. The shape of the plates is very original. Outwardly, it resembles the image on a playing card, since the upper and lower parts of the wooden plank are exactly the same.

Step 3

To obtain the desired shape, stepping back 1-1.5 cm from the ends, shallow semicircular notches are made in the lateral sides of the plates, and the ends themselves are rounded. The resulting figures above and below the plate should be the same, resembling a truncated silhouette of a person: shoulders-neck-head.

Step 4

Both parts, cut in this way, are applied to each other and grinded (chipped) until they become exactly the same and do not touch tightly. Then, along the vertical axis of each of the plates, grooves are cut out with a width of 3 mm and a depth of no more than 3 mm. When joining parts, the location of the grooves must match.

Step 5

Next, a strip 2 mm wide is cut out of rubber with a thickness of not more than 3 mm. In both wooden parts, holes are drilled, located on the hollows and slightly below the level of the "shoulders" of the figures. Each plate should have two holes. Between them, horizontal cuts are made 1 cm wide and 2-3 mm deep. By the size of the saw, a wooden wedge is made, which is able to fit tightly into it.

Step 6

The final stage is the installation of semolina. A previously cut strip of thin rubber is inserted into one of the holes from the side of the hollow and pressed with a wooden wedge. The other end of the rubber strip is threaded into the opposite hole on the same part. Pull on the elastic. Experts know that the more elastic it is, the thinner the sound it makes.

Step 7

After the strip is stretched and secured, both parts are applied to each other and pulled together at the level of the "neck" of the figures. They test the decoy for performance: they blow with effort into the hole formed from the joining of the hollows. The rubber band begins to vibrate and make a sound that imitates the squeak of a field mouse. If the decoy is made as accurately and accurately as possible, success in the hunt is guaranteed.
