Despite the abundance of various industrial textiles in stores, handicraft remains very popular. After all, this is not only a way to make a beautiful and necessary thing, but also self-expression. Among needlewomen, embroidery is very popular, especially cross-stitching as a fairly simple and affordable design method for beginners.

It is necessary

  • - canvas;
  • - the cloth;
  • - a needle;
  • - embroidery hoop;
  • - threads for embroidery.

Instructions

Step 1

Find materials for embroidery. The fabric for cross stitching should be with a large plain weave. If you want to embroider on a different canvas, use a dedicated canvas. It is applied to the fabric, and after the embroidery is completed, its threads are pulled out.

Also choose the right thread. Usually, various brands of floss are used for cross stitching, but you can also use silk or not too thick woolen threads. Find the colors you need for your design or embroidered painting.

Step 2

Decide how many threads your embroidery will be made in. Crosses in one strand will create the effect of translucency of the picture, and in three strands - they will be bright and voluminous.

Step 3

Select the point where you want to start embroidering. Some embroidery tutorials recommend starting from the middle, but if you are more comfortable working from one of the edges, this will not affect the look of the embroidery.

Step 4

Make the necessary calculations for the correct placement of the embroidery on the fabric. To do this, decide what size your crosses will be, count their number in the image and measure out the required amount of fabric.

Step 5

Hoop the fabric over the hoop. In this case, you will be sure that the embroidery will turn out to be even, and the fabric will not be taut or deformed. The hoop can be used in any shape and size that suits you.

Step 6

Start the actual embroidery. To make the crosses straight, you need to sew in one direction, for example, the first stitch is from left to right, and the second from right to left. Also, for embroidery, it is important not to tie knots of threads on the wrong side, but carefully fasten them with stitches at the beginning and at the end of each thread. Carefully count the number of crosses of different colors in each row so that the pattern is not misaligned. To do this, you can even make neat pencil marks on the fabric to indicate the beginning of a new colored motif. Then they can be either closed with embroidery or erased.
