Embroidery is a multifaceted ancient art divided into several techniques. Each of them uses its own seams and stitches, its own set of colors, its own material for threads and base fabrics, as well as a characteristic set of additional tools. Half-cross stitching is not the most popular technique. It uses several types of seams with different geometric shapes, patterns and colors of different complexity.

Instructions

Step 1

The main seam of the half-cross embroidery resembles a tapestry stitch and a "cross". It got its name from the second technique. The seam consists of diagonal stitches (from bottom left to top right) on the face and vertical (going from top to bottom) on the wrong side. Pass the thread over the face through the hole in the canvas, leaving a tail about 2 cm on the wrong side. Pull the needle into the upper left corner located nearby (the hole in the canvas square), tighten, bring it to the face a little lower. Repeat a few stitches depending on the pattern. The difference from cross stitching is that at the end of the row you will not turn back, but simply remove the needle.

Step 2

Another type of seam "half-cross": make several vertical stitches on the face according to the pattern. On the wrong side, you should get a pattern of diagonal stitches directed to one side (right down). At the end of the row, turn back and sew the same number of diagonal stitches from bottom right to bottom left to top. At the end of the work, the drawings of the seamy side and the face will match.
