Paradox - the more comfortable the chair, the faster its upholstery wears out. Even the densest fabric over time takes on a look that is far from the original. But take your time to get rid of your favorite furniture. You can easily update the chair upholstery with your own hands, using your skill, the necessary tools and materials.

It is necessary

White linen canvas, cotton wool (batting), upholstery fabric, fabric scissors, tape measure, tailor's chalk, hammer, pliers

Instructions

Step 1

Take measurements of the old upholstery - it will serve as a template for cutting. By measuring, you can easily determine the consumption of new fabric. Do not forget to just make the necessary allowance for the shrinkage of the material.

Step 2

Prepare a new gasket. It will be best if it matches the thickness of the old one. It is possible that in order for the new chair to retain its previous shape, you will have to use two layers of batting.

Step 3

Place the batting on the canvas-covered padding and cut the padding to fit the upholstery. The batting pad should fit softly against the edges of the canvas-covered padding.

Step 4

Before tightening the gasket with white calico, check how the gasket itself lies. A prerequisite is that the covering must be very tight, the calico must lie flat without wrinkles.

Step 5

Make a general cutting plan to save fabric. Lay the patterns so that the longitudinal thread of the canvas runs along the back and seat along, and on the arms of the chair - across.

Step 6

Fold the finished piece of coarse calico in half along its length. After that, nail the front and rear edges of the part to the underside of the crossbar, making an interval of 50-60 mm. The threads should run strictly vertically. After closing the fabric at the corners, pull it in the direction of the sides so that there is no distortion.

Step 7

Proceed to the final stage - upholstery of the chair with fabric. Work the front corners especially carefully to make the chair look perfect. Fill the rectangular corners with one fold, and make the rounded corners in the form of a wreath. Nail the edges of the folds.

Step 8

For seat upholstery with rounded corners, pull the fabric over the corner so that it is evenly distributed on both sides. Pull the end of the fabric and secure it with a nail under the bar. Cut off excess material and fold the fabric. Now you can enjoy relaxing in your favorite chair again.
