In the wardrobe of almost every woman there are clothes that do not fit the figure well. Many do not know what to do with such things: it is a pity to throw them away, but it is impossible to wear them. However, almost any item can be altered so that it looks perfect on its owner.
In the closet of many women, you can find beautiful and comfortable dresses that their mistress, for whatever reason, does not wear. If the thing is simply tired of its owner, you need to part with it without regret. However, it happens much more often that the dress just does not fit the figure well. Such things can be given a second life if you correctly alter them. Experienced dressmakers have several professional secrets to perfectly fit almost any dress.
Correction of the product in length
If the bottom of the dress is skewed after washing, or the product is simply too long for you, you can correct this defect very quickly. To do this, you need to put on a dress, put on the shoes with which it is supposed to be worn and align the bottom of the product. You will not be able to do this on your own: you will have to ask the assistant to measure the distance from the floor to the desired level with a long ruler and apply markings throughout the dress, indicating a new bottom line. After that, the bottom of the dress must be hemmed with an open or closed cut. You can also trim the hem with a bias tape or shank.
Changing the length of the sleeves
Inappropriate sleeve length is a very common defect. If they are too long, rip off the hem, iron it out, and cut off the excess fabric. Then the bottom of the sleeves of the dress is reinforced with a gasket and hemmed with a seam or edged.
If the sleeves are short, you can lengthen them by stitching them in contrasting or companion fabric along the bottom of the cuff. In this case, you need to take care that the fabric of the cuffs is used as a decoration for some other part of the dress. For example, you can make a new collar, belt or decorative flower from it.
Fitting the product in width
Straight or semi-fitted dresses are the easiest to fit to the figure. If the model is wide for you, it is enough to remove excess fabric in additional seams or darts. To do this, it is necessary to turn the dress inside out, outline new lines of seams, sew it in, process the sections and iron the product.
If the dress is tight, then the simplest way to fit it to the figure is to dissolve the seams. To do this, you need to lay new stitches along the seams closer to the edges of the parts. The main disadvantage of this method is the lack of a sufficient width for the seam allowances. Often, the product has to be completely unpicked and expanded by stitching in additional inserts. However, not all models can be altered in this way. Sometimes you have to refuse to alter the dress due to the lack of the possibility of adjusting it.
