It is necessary

  • - tripod,
  • - release cable or remote control,
  • - wide angle lens.

Instructions

Step 1

Be sure to use a tripod. It is necessary not only for fireworks, but also for any filming in the dark, otherwise you will not get a clear picture. Exposure times are long, any shake can ruin the frame. To ensure complete immobility of the camera, in addition to a tripod, purchase a release cable or a remote control. Then the camera will be completely motionless.

Step 2

Plan your shoot. All lenses, techniques, the place where the tripod will stand - all this needs to be thought out in advance, since during the fireworks you will need to take pictures, not think.

Step 3

It is best to choose a wide-angle lens for shooting fireworks. You don’t know in advance in what part of the space the main part of the fireworks will be, but such a lens will allow you to cover a large space, which can then be cropped. Telephoto lenses need a preliminary sufficiently accurate aiming at the area of interest to you, and it is quite difficult to do this during a fireworks display. You may simply waste a lot of time looking for the correct shooting point.

Step 4

Usually, long and hand exposures are used for fireworks. So you can set the elaboration of the fireworks, guided by your own impression of what is happening. The diaphragm usually closes until 8-16 to make the fireworks sharp. Set a small sensitivity, ISO 100 is the most optimal value. Higher sensitivities are more likely to degrade image quality.

Step 5

Do not use flash unless you want to enhance the foreground. For the fireworks itself, there is no point in using it, since no such device can work at such a distance.

Step 6

Focus should be done manually. Autofocus in low light conditions may not work very well, so you just miss a lot of good shots or find that the fireworks turned out to be out of focus.

Step 7

Come to the shooting location in advance. You need to take a good position, arrange all the items necessary for shooting. Think about the plans for the shots.
