Step 1
When choosing material for the future shelf, be guided by the nature of the load that it will have to bear. Naturally, the thickness of the board for the shelf intended for storing Tolstoy's collected works and for the structure on which you intend to keep souvenirs should be different.
Step 2
Prepare two long boards that determine the length of the future shelf and two short ones that determine its height. For a standard bookshelf, the height is determined by the size of your books, the length may vary depending on the size of your library.
Step 3
Lay out the boards in accordance with the selected dimensions. Cut off the shelf parts with a hacksaw. It is advisable to use a tool with a narrow blade and a fine tooth, this will help to make the cut cleaner.
Step 4
Attach short side pieces to the edges of the long board and mark the places where the screws will be screwed.
Step 5
Assemble the boards into a single structure: an equally long back surface is attached to the long bottom board, and short side boards are attached to the sides. Sequentially screw the boards one to the other with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver.
Step 6
Glue the edges of the assembled shelf with edging tape. If necessary, the product can be painted in a color that is in harmony with the color of the interior of the room.
Step 7
Screw metal canopies to the joints of the boards with screws to secure the shelf to the wall.
Step 8
Mark up in a pre-selected place on the wall, taking into account the distance between the canopies. Drill holes in the wall, drive dowels into them and screw in self-tapping screws that will hold the shelf. It remains to hang the shelf in its place and start using it for its intended purpose.
