Many novice motorcyclists are faced with the problem of choosing a helmet. While some motorsport enthusiasts have argued against the need for such a protective device, in many countries riding without a helmet is considered a serious traffic violation. Statistics are collected by both supporters of the type of equipment and opponents. And they agree on one thing: only a properly selected helmet can protect a motorcyclist from serious injury or even death.

It is necessary

  • - tape measure;
  • - size conversion table.

Instructions

Step 1

Measure the circumference of your head. This is done in about the same way as for building a pattern for a headdress. Take a measuring tape and place the zero mark on a point just above your left ear. Press down on the zero mark with your left hand, with your right hand, circle a measuring tape around the head - just above the eyebrows, above the right ear, along the back of the head at the widest part of the skull. It is much more convenient to do these manipulations with someone's help. If there is no assistant nearby, stand in front of a mirror so that the line above the eyebrows is straight, and the point above the right ear is just opposite the one where you hold the centimeter.

Step 2

Find a size conversion chart. Any decent store that sells such goods has one, but just in case, grab it anyway. Head circumference 53-54 cm corresponds to size XS. If you get a size of 55-56 cm, the helmet should be marked S. The letter M means a head circumference of 57-58 cm. Large sizes correspond to signs L (59-60 cm) and XL (61-62 cm).

Step 3

Do not entrust the purchase of a helmet to another person. You should definitely try it on, even if you have identified the marking. Firstly, the sizes of helmets from different companies can vary, especially if the manufacturer is not very reputable. Secondly, in theory, helmets of two similar sizes may suit you, and which one to choose is up to you. Give preference to the one that is slightly smaller.

Step 4

The helmet should fit snugly on the head. But at the same time, squeezing should not be allowed. Remember that the slightest inconvenience can affect the handling of your motorcycle. Accordingly, you run the risk of getting into a dangerous situation. Start measuring helmets from the size you specified. If the crown does not touch the upper part, and you yourself feel discomfort, ask for a slightly larger product, but from the same manufacturer. It may not be there. Then start measuring helmets from another company with the same size that you calculated. It may very well be that the first one will suit you perfectly.

Step 5

Buckle the strap. Try to remove it in this position by pulling in different directions. First grasp the trailing edge, lift and pull forward. Then grab the forehead and pull back. The helmet must not be removed.
