Instructions

Step 1

Open the video in the VirtualDub app. To do this, in the main menu, click on the items "File" and "Open video file …", or press the key combination Ctrl + O. In the dialog that appears, specify the path to the folder with the video, select the file in the list, click the "Open" button.

Step 2

Save your movie soundtrack as a separate file. Select "Audio" from the main menu and then check the "Direct stream copy" checkbox. Then select the "File" and "Save WAV…" items from the menu. A file save dialog will appear. Specify the target directory and file name in it. Click the "Save" button. Wait until the process of writing the file to disk is completed.

Step 3

Open the saved audio track and song file in the Sound Forge editor. Select the menu items "File" and "Open …", or use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Alt + F2 or Ctrl + O. In the dialog that appears, specify the path to the directory where the sound file was saved in the previous step. Select a file from the list. Click the "Open" button. Wait for the data to load into the editor. In the same way, open the file with the song you want to insert into the video.

Step 4

Copy a portion of a song or an entire song. Highlight the desired part of the audio recording. Use the mouse to select one fragment. To select the entire record, press Ctrl + A. Right-click on the selection. In the context menu, select the "Copy" item. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Ins.

Step 5

Insert the song into the audio track extracted from the video. Switch to the appropriate document window. Select the location where the song should be inserted. Starting from the selected point, select an area on the histogram that is slightly longer than the previously copied section of the song. Right-click on the selected area. In the context menu, select the "Overwrite" item.

Step 6

Check the song insertion result. Listen to the audio track in the modified area. Move the cursor by clicking on the desired location on the histogram. Click the "Play Normal" button in the document window.

Step 7

Save the modified audio track. Press the Alt + F2 key combination, or click on the "File" and "Save As …" items in the menu. In the "Save As" dialog, select the directory and the name of the file to be saved, in the "File type" list, select the "Wave (Microsoft) (*.wav)" item. Click the "Custom" button. In the "Custom Settings" dialog specify the codec and audio compression parameters. Click the "OK" button. Click the "Save" button. Wait for the end of the saving process.

Step 8

Specify the file with the modified audio track as the audio source of the processed video. In VirtualDub, click on the "Audio" item in the menu, and then on the "Audio From Other File…" item. In the dialog that appears, select the sound file obtained in the previous step. Click the "Open" button.

Step 9

Save a copy of the video that includes the audio track with the inserted song. Select the "Video" item in the menu, check the "Direct Stream Copy" item to enable the mode of direct copying of the video stream data. Press F7, or use the menu items "File" and "Save As AVI …". In the dialog that appears, enter the file name and specify the directory where it will be saved. Click the "Save" button. Wait until the file is written to disk.
