Weaving baskets is one of the fun hobbies. The basket can be woven not only from willow twigs (vines). Baskets are woven from thread, hair, fabric and even paper. Made from newspapers and magazines, the baskets are durable and not inferior to products made from vines. And if you decorate the basket with flowers, beads, ribbons, decoupage applications - then you will get a real work of art!

It is necessary

Newspapers or magazines, knitting needle or rod, scissors, PVA glue, paint, brushes, basis for weaving (pot, planter, box)

Instructions

Step 1

Let's make a basket of ordinary newspapers.

Use a knitting needle or thin rod to twist the paper tubes. To do this, cut the sheets of a newspaper or magazine into strips, about 5 cm by 30 cm. The tubes will be thin. If you need them thicker, then increase the size of the stripes. Start winding the newspaper as tightly as possible against the spoke or rod. By twisting the tube to the middle, you can remove the knitting needle. When the strip ends, fix the edge of the newspaper to the tube with PVA glue. You will need a lot of such tubes for the basket.

Step 2

The resulting straws can be dyed with either food dyes or fabric dye. Let them dry well. The tubules will become stiff. If the tubes at this stage are not painted, then you can paint the finished basket.

Step 3

Prepare the base for the basket (bottom). To do this, take 8 tubes and weave with a "grid" pattern, ie. Interlace 4 horizontal tubes with 4 vertical ones. If the length of any tube is not enough, take another tube, grease its tip with glue and insert into the previous one.

Step 4

Next, continue weaving the basket round. Thus, weave the bottom of the size you need (according to the size of the base).

Step 5

Bend the tubes upward, relative to your base. Next, braid in horizontal rows. The weave density should be the same. When you get the desired height of the basket, cut the vertical tubes and bend them inward or outward. Fasten the tubes in the previous rows, cut off the rest.

Step 6

The lid for the basket can be woven in the same way.

Step 7

Cover the basket with paint of the chosen color and acrylic varnish. Decorate the basket with beads, flowers, ribbons. A similar basket can be used both in the interior and as a gift wrapping.
