Step 1
Usually craftswomen try to pick up multi-colored threads so that they are the same thickness. If you have a lot of remnants of approximately the same yarn, nothing will prevent you from knitting a new original product from them. But you can do the opposite way, that is, knit one strip from a very thick thread, and the other from a very thin one. You will get something like a corrugated canvas. The transition from one color to another is done in approximately the same way. It is more convenient to knit strips on straight knitting needles, but you can also use circular knitting needles.
Step 2
Tie to the beginning of the strip. At the beginning of the row, attach a new thread, but do not cut off the old one. Pull the end of the new thread over the top of the stitches on the left knitting needle. Striped fabric looks better if it is knitted with hosiery or garter stitch. You can also knit with an elastic band, but in any case, the pattern should be quite simple. When knitting with an elastic band, you need to immediately determine where you will have the front side. It is better to start a new strip from the front row. Knit it with knit ones. Knit the next row with knit and purl, placing them over the corresponding loops of the previous rows.
Step 3
Knit a strip of the desired width and finish with a purl row. Wrap the thread of the previous color once around the one you just finished knitting. The hem loop can be removed or knitted. It depends on how you are going to fasten the parts together. If you have a seam at some distance from the edge, remove the initial loop in the same way as when knitting a solid color. If you are going to crochet parts or sew a "loop into a loop", knit an edge. This is necessary so that the edges of the stripes completely coincide.
Step 4
Stripes on circular knitting needles are knitted in about the same way. In this case, it is very important to remember where you start the row. This is usually seen, the junction of the product in a circle is slightly stretched and slightly thicker. But this is not always the case. Therefore, it is better to mark the beginning of the row. Knit a piece of the desired width with a thread of the first color. Attach a second thread from the wrong side. In this case, it is better to do this with a double knot. The end of the new thread can also be laid along the previous row so that it is inside the new loops. Do not break the first thread either. Leave her alone for a while. Having knitted the strip to the desired width, pull the first thread on the wrong side and twist around the one from which you knitted the strip in one turn.
