Clay is a cheap, environmentally friendly, plastic material with a wide range of applications. A lot can be made from clay: from house bricks and dishes to toys and women's jewelry. But different clay has different physical properties, therefore, products from it are completely different. This must be taken into account when working with clay.

It is necessary

  • - clay mass;
  • - a vessel with water;
  • - vessel with slip;
  • - table;
  • - a set of stacks;
  • - a rag.

Instructions

Step 1

Decide what kind of clay composition is right for your idea. Knead the clay mass, adding a little water to it, until the clay of the desired consistency is obtained, it should be homogeneous and plastic. It is possible to purchase already prepared clay.

Step 2

Knead the clay ball in your hands. Imagine the appearance of your future product, take care of the integrity and stability of the product design. Start sculpting, guided by the rule - "from general to particular", from large details to small ones.

Step 3

Try not to stick the smaller parts to the whole, but to "pull" out of it. Do not assemble a figure from pieces, as is done when working with plasticine, but sculpt from one piece. This is done so that the workpiece withstands all technological steps to the finished product.

Step 4

Decorate the piece after you make sure it is solid. First smooth the product, carefully smoothing all joints. Then, using any available material as stacks (sticks, rods, carnations, etc.), you can decorate the products by extruding or scratching a pattern on it. Use a slip (creamy clay) if there is a need to "glue" some decorative detail.

Step 5

Dry the product at room temperature. If you burn it after drying in a muffle furnace at a temperature of 700 degrees, then the product will be durable, acquire the color of fired clay and will no longer be afraid of water. If this is not required, then the dry product can be immediately primed and finally decorated with paints for ceramics.
