American actress Yvette Mimo was nominated for the Golden Globe three times (1960, 1965 and 1971). One of the most famous films with her participation is the 1960 film Time Machine. Now Ivet Mimo is already well over seventy, and for more than a quarter of a century she has not acted in films and on TV - the last time she appeared on television as an actress was in 1992.
Early biography and first film roles
Yvette Mimo was born on January 8, 1942 in Los Angeles. Her father's name was Rene Mimo, and he is French by nationality. And the mother's name is Maria del Carmen Montemayor (she is Mexican by birth). The future actress spent her childhood in the same Los Angeles.
In the late fifties, Ivet participated in several beauty contests. Thanks to a victory in one of them, she got to the casting of the film "Prison Rock" directed by Richard Thorpe (the main role in it, by the way, was played by the famous musician Elvis Presley). Ivet fought at this casting for one of the episodic roles, but in the end another girl was approved for her.
In 1959, Yvette signed her first contract as an actress - with the influential studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. And the first film where Yvette played a more or less prominent role was called Platinum College (1960). In this crime drama, she played the role of the beautiful Lorinda Nibley. The film as a whole turned out to be unprofitable, but Yvette's performance was received, in general, positively. For her role as Lorinda, she was nominated for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globe Award (in the category "Best Female Debut").
In 1960, another film with Yvette's participation was released - "The Time Machine". This film is based on the literary work of the same name by H. G. Wells. Here she portrayed a girl from the future - Wina, with whom the main character eventually falls in love (he was played by the famous actor of those years - Rod Taylor).
Career as an actress from 1962 to 1992
In 1962, Yvet performed the main role in the film "Light on the Square". Here she played Clara, a beautiful but mentally retarded girl from a wealthy family. The film (like Platinum College) flopped at the box office, but was well received by critics.
Two years later, in 1964, in the TV series Dr. Kildare, Yvette appeared in two episodes as a terminally ill patient. For this acting job, she was nominated for the second time for a Golden Globe (in the category "Best Actress on TV").
Until the end of the sixties, the actress continued to actively act in films. In particular, in 1969 she appeared in the title role in the lyric drama Summer Picasso, written by the legendary science fiction writer Ray Bradbury. Yvette Mimo got the main female role here.
In 1970 and 1971, Mimo starred in The Deadliest Game. Here she portrayed a heroine named Vanessa Smith. This role earned her her third Golden Globe nomination.
By the early seventies, Mimo had established herself well as an actress, but she was unhappy with the roles that were generally offered to women in Hollywood at the time. The female characters in the scripts of those years, according to Yvette, for the most part, had no depth and were "one-dimensional."
Ultimately, Mimo decided to try herself as a screenwriter. And in 1974 on the ABC channel the premiere of the TV movie "Hit Lady", created according to her script, took place. Moreover, Yvette herself played the main role here - a woman killer who used her attractive appearance to get closer to the victims. Hit Lady became one of the highest-rated television films of 1974 in the United States.
In 1975, Mimo starred in the biopic The Legend of Valentino. Here she played the wife of the popular actor of the twenties of the XX century, Rudolf Valentino, Natasha Rambova.
In 1976, she starred in the thriller Jackson County Jail, opposite Tommy Lee Jones. The plot of this film tells about a woman who happened to be in prison and was subjected to violence there. This film ultimately not only became a box office hit, but also acquired a somewhat cult status.
Then Yvette appeared, for example, in such films as "Devil's Dog: Hellhound" (1978), "Incident on the liner" (1979), "Circle of Power" (1981), "Forbidden Love" (1982).
In 1984, the second TV movie was filmed according to her script - "Obsessive Love". And again, Mimo herself played the main character here - a woman named Linda, who is obsessively trying to establish a relationship with a television star - actor Glenn Stevens. For this, she even specially travels to Los Angeles. After a series of events, Linda manages to meet Glenn, and after that the actor's life begins to crumble …
In 1985, Mimo appeared in the disastrous soap opera The Berrengers, which aired on NBC from January to March 1985. The plot of the series revolved around the Berrenger dynasty, which owns a large department store in the center of New York. However, viewers did not appreciate this TV project, and after 13 episodes filmed, it was closed.
Over the next seven years, Yvette Mimo had only a few small roles. In particular, she appeared in the 1986 film "The Fifth Rocket" (her character was named Cheryl Leary). Five years later, in 1990, Memo starred in the television detective film Perry Mason: The Case of Forced Deception. Finally, in 1992, she took part in the mini-series "Lady Boss". After that, Mimo decided to end her acting career.
Personal life
In 1972, Yvette Mimo became the wife of director and producer Stanley Donen. This marriage lasted thirteen years, the couple divorced in 1985.
In 1986, the actress remarried - this time the filmmaker and businessman Howard Ruby became her chosen one. (however, Ruby became famous all over the world, rather, as a photographer - for the National Geographic magazine he photographed polar bears, and these pictures were very widely replicated).
After Yvette married Howard, she began to devote less and less time to her acting career, focusing on other interests. In particular, she has proven herself in the real estate business. For a time, Ivet, together with Howard, owned the Mexican resort Beachhacienda, where many stars rested.
It should be added that the actress is now a widow - Howard Ruby died in June 2011.
