Jig fishing is sport fishing, where the success of the angler depends on the ability to make clear casts, correct leads and sharp sweeps. The ability to choose the right bait is equally important.
Jig fishing is a type of spinning fishing. Usually in this way they catch predatory fish that live at great depths. There are many ways of jig fishing, they differ in the design of the tackle and the technique of wiring.
Tackle for jig fishing
The main element of the tackle is spinning. Its optimal length for this fishing method is between 240 and 275 centimeters. Shorter rods can be used, but this will reduce the casting distance. Therefore, short rods are only suitable for fishing from a boat. It is better to choose rods not from fiberglass, but from carbon fiber or composite materials.
For jig fishing, spinning reels with a stopper are used. The roller and spool must be strong, so cheap plastic reels are not suitable for this fishing method.
The line can be used both monofilament and braided. If finances allow, then it is better to opt for braiding.
The sinker is a jig head. It is a lead weight with a hook attached to it. For silicone baits, offset hooks are most suitable, which are used for so-called non-hooks. Jig heads can be of any shape, more often they are round, oval or in the shape of a fish head. The average weight of a jig head is 10 grams.
As bait, usually jig lovers use silicone and foam rubber fish, spinners, maggots or earthworms.
Features of jig fishing
Jig fishing consists in the fact that after casting the tackle, it is necessary to do step wiring. With this technique, the bait can mimic the movements of a small fish that a large predatory fish feeds on.
The bait is thrown into the selected place and smoothly sinks to the bottom. After that, you need to make three or four turns of the coil and wait a few seconds, then turn the coil handle again. With such manipulations, the lure underwater makes zigzag movements that attract predatory fish.
The transfer speed may vary. In the process of fishing, you should experiment with different speeds and change the bait. If in 30 minutes you have not had a bite, this indicates that it is time to change the bait. Also, in the absence of bites, it is recommended to change the place of fishing. For jig fishing, places such as a river bed, bottom pits, sandy shallow waters, areas with sharp drops in depths are suitable.
