The dance originates in the most ancient religious rites of the ancestors of modern man. The art of dance has developed and improved over the millennia, so it would be frivolous to consider it only entertainment and a way of having a pleasant pastime.

According to art historians and archaeologists, man began to dance as early as the 8th millennium BC, when another form of art began to develop - painting, which existed at that time in the form of rock paintings. Stone Age dances were animistic in nature, based on the movements of animals, and gradually acquired the features of a ritual. Dancing has become an integral part of many rituals: for example, before hunting, our ancestors honed their hunting skills and instilled confidence in success by dancing.
Step 2
Different civilizations have formed their own dance traditions, in which the rhythm, structure, typology, and content differed. For example, Indonesian dance is distinguished by clear steps, African tribes emphasize erotic movements, Japanese and Chinese dancers move smoothly and gently. The formation of these features was influenced by the culture of the people, the nature of the development of the state, historical events and many other factors.
Step 3
For such a long history of dance, a large number of types, styles and forms have been invented. Today there are such areas as ballet, waltz, tango, samba, tectonics, breaking and many others. Folk traditions do not disappear either; polka, jiga, lasso, krakowiak, belly dance continue to exist. New styles are constantly appearing, conquering fans all over the world: strip dance, shuffle, popping, hakka, jumpstyle.

Many centuries have passed since the emergence of dance, the world and humanity have changed, but this form of art exists and flourishes, although the belief that it can cause rain, give strength to hunt or persuade a deity to forgive sins has disappeared. A person needs to dance: this is a great way to maintain a good mental state, it is a means to get rid of muscle tension, to train breathing and balance, to improve posture. With the help of dance, you can learn to control your body.

Modern dance styles are not only a person's hobby, used as a way of self-expression. It is both a competitive sport and a showcase art form. So, in the Delphic Games one of the nominations is dance.
