Modern models of denim pants for children do not always meet the requirements of parents. DIY jeans solve this problem. They can be made with pockets, embroidery, appliqués, fashionable scuffs or classic strict ones.
It is not necessary to purchase a piece of denim; you can get by with old jeans from one of the parents. The most shabby and ugly places are usually the bottom of the legs. Lay out your old jeans on the table where all sewing work will be done. Children's pants, which are now suitable for the child, will serve as a reference and size sample so that you do not have to take measurements. Fold the pants in half: leg to leg straight along the seam.
This simple sewing method is convenient because no special patterns are required. It is enough to make allowances in the future for the seams so that the jeans fit the child in time, or be a little larger - for growth.
Attach baby pants to jeans, circle with chalk or remnants. The size of the allowance is 2-2.5 cm. Repeat the procedure, attaching the sample to the side seam of the second leg of the jeans. After that, the pattern can be removed. Cut the blank for jeans so that the side seam remains intact on each leg.
If you cut out the seam, then you will have to do the processing: sew back. And this is how a half-finished pattern is obtained, sewn from one side, for children's jeans. If you unfold the workpiece, a U-shaped cut is formed at the top.
This cut must be finished with a strong stitching. For example, a zigzag. Sew the U-neck from the seamy side so that excess threads do not stick out and the front side is neat and beautifully stitched. Flip the pattern over to gauge the evenness of the middle seam. Since the future jeans are already sewn on one side, simply sew the other side of each leg along the seam allowance.
It is recommended to use very strong thread for sewing. For example, silk or nylon. The line on the sewing machine must be sewn with a 100/110 needle. These numbers are strong and thick enough to punch through denim.
To make the almost finished product look more like jeans, iron it, steam off all the seams. If required, patch pockets on the back can also be sewn on. To do this, open the pockets from old jeans, cut out the same, but smaller ones along them, making a small allowance of 0.5 cm. Fold this stock inside out, steam off. If embroidery is required, then it can be done at this very moment, while the pockets have not yet been sewn.
Sew the pockets by hand according to the steamed allowance. After that, turn out the pants, sew the bent seams on a typewriter, remove the manual ones. Instead of pockets, you can make patches to help the jeans rub less.
The last step: a jeans belt. Measure and cut the knitted fabric so that it can be folded in half. The double belt will rub less, hold on more firmly. Prepare an elastic band or drawstring in advance, which will hold the jeans. Sew on the belt with a machine, insert the elastic into it. Insulated jeans can be sewn using the same principle. They also require a fleece lining. It is cut out similarly to the jeans themselves, and is sewn at the seams from the inside (the allowance in the workpiece will be 0.5 cm more).
