A veil is one of the main accessories for a bride. Light, airy, it gives the appearance of a girl modesty and at the same time mysteriousness. The variety of modern models allows the bride to choose a veil for almost any wedding dress and any hairstyle. But if you want to get an exclusive veil, and even for little money, try to sew it yourself.

It is necessary

  • You will need:
  • - tulle, organza or tulle;
  • - scissors;
  • - threads;
  • - sewing machine or needles;
  • - a hairpin or comb for attaching the veil to the hairdo;
  • - rhinestones, lace, satin ribbon, beads.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you start sewing a veil, you need to decide on its appearance. One of the important parameters is the length of the veil. The most popular options are: shoulder-length veil (60cm), elbow-length (75-80cm), fingertip veil (110cm) and a veil with a long train (over 2 meters). In addition, you need to decide how lush and thick you want your veil: keep in mind that if the veil will cover your face before the first kiss, it is better to refuse multiple folds on it so that the photographs show the bride's face, rather than a white cloud of fabric. If the veil should fall over the shoulders and back, then it can be as lush as possible.

Step 2

Decide in advance how you will process the edge of the veil. Perhaps trim it with satin trim or lace, or sew on braid with rhinestones or pearls. Consider also whether it is worth complementing the veil with decorations - embroidery or small beads. The decor and decoration of the veil should be in harmony with the wedding dress or the bride's jewelry.

Step 3

When you decide on the model and sketch out a rough sketch, you can proceed to taking measurements and cutting the fabric. Most often, when creating a veil, an oval or rectangle with rounded edges is used as a pattern, sometimes a square.

Step 4

As for the size of the veil, the length should be measured from the head to the point where the veil should end, and double the result. The width of the veil depends on its expected density, but in any case it will be at least 180cm.

Step 5

Spread the fabric out on a large table or on the floor. Fold it in half lengthwise, and then again along the transverse line. You now have a four-layer rectangle of fabric. Take scissors and round off the free corner of the fabric, holding the layers together and marking the cutting line. When you unfold the material, you will see that you have a rounded rectangle.

Step 6

Now you need to shape the veil. To do this, fold the fabric across the middle, or make one end of the fabric slightly longer than the other to give the veil a layered look. Try on the veil by attaching it to your head, if it turns out to be longer than you would like, cut off the excess, making the cut edge rounded.

Step 7

The next step is assembling the veil. You need to use a needle and thread to gather the fabric along the fold into numerous folds. If you are sewing a thick bridal veil, gather the fabric all the way up. If you plan to make the veil lax, thread only the middle section of the fabric along the fold. As a result, you should end up with a piece of collected tissue about 5cm long.

Step 8

Sew the veil to the hairpin or comb, through which it will be attached to the hairdo. You can also use a bezel or tiara as an attachment. Now you can try on the product and move on to decorating the veil and working off the bottom edge.

Step 9

Sewing trim to the bottom edge of the veil and decorative elements can be done either by hand or on a sewing machine. To do this, use thin threads and try to do the work as carefully and thoroughly as possible.

Step 10

Your veil is ready. Perhaps now this is not just a wedding accessory, but a future heirloom that you can one day pass on to your daughter or daughter-in-law.
