When painting a cat's fur with paints (gouache, watercolors), you need to take into account the specifics of the material. Sometimes you need to work wet, sometimes wait until the last layer dries. This work requires attention and precision, and from this it is very interesting.

It is necessary

A sheet of paper, a pencil, an eraser, brushes of different thicknesses, paints, water

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare materials for work. Place the sheet of paper vertically or horizontally, depending on which pose your cat will be drawn in. Before that, think of a pose for the cat, its age (kitten or adult). Using a simple pencil, without pressing hard on the lead, draw a sketch of the animal on a sheet of paper.

Step 2

Start with the cat's torso. Draw a general outline of the body. Keep in mind that cats are graceful animals. Browse some photos on the internet. Notice how the predator's back arches in various poses. Next, mark the head, it resembles a trapezoid in shape (the lower base is much smaller than the upper one).

Step 3

Draw the cat's paws. Pay attention to their structure. In a seated position, the cat can tuck its legs under itself, it can only sit on its hind legs (mark them with semi-oval along the body in this case). Mark the ears with small triangles. On the face, mark the eyes of an almond shape, the nose in the form of an inverted triangle, on the sides of it draw "cheeks" from which vibrissae (mustache) will grow.

Step 4

Draw the tail for the cat. It can wrap around the body of the animal, which indicates the calm state of the predator. Can stand upside down or simply tilted to the side. Erase all unnecessary invisible lines with an eraser. Prepare paint for work. Please note that if you paint with watercolors, the pencil may show through. Gouache does not possess such properties.

Step 5

Fill the background first. It can be solid and not darker than the main color of the animal. But, so that it does not look boring, in the process of covering the background, add other shades to the main color, which will add variety. Choose the main color of the cat's coat and also cover it completely (without touching the nose and eyes), adding shades lighter or darker in some places. Wait until dry.

Step 6

Change the brush a couple of sizes smaller. Apply more precise strokes over the coat. Try to apply strokes according to the shape of the cat's body. Pick other shades of animal color and work with them in some places. Highlight the tail, paws with paint, applying shadow in darker colors directly to the main drawing. Do not use black paint for the shadow, it is better to mix blue and brown. Do this a couple of times.

Step 7

Change the brush to a thinner one. Now work on the first plan by drawing some hairs, claws, hairs, antennae. Fill the eyes, nose with color, wait until dry and refine the color.
