Covers for furniture protect it from dust, damage to the upholstery, and at the same time decorate the interior and allow you to add variety to it. The shape of such capes is extremely simple - it repeats the shape of the furniture. To make the "suit" for an armchair or sofa fit perfectly, you need to make a pattern for the cover.

Instructions

Step 1

To make a pattern for a chair cover, measure its parameters one by one and immediately reflect them in the drawing - this way it is easier not to get confused in many numbers. Use a tape measure to measure the length and width of the chair seat. Draw a rectangle on the paper with the same parameters.

Step 2

Determine how long the cover should be - whether it should hide the legs or go down only 3-5 cm from the seat. Draw rectangles of the corresponding height on the side and bottom sides of the rectangle in the drawing.

Step 3

Measure the height of the back of your chair. Attach a rectangle of this height to the drawing of the seat. Then determine the thickness of the backrest. Even this 1-2 cm counts for the pattern. Attach such a fragment to the rectangle of the backrest, and then draw the length of the backrest from the back: if the front cover goes down from the seat to the floor, it makes sense to make the back of the cover just as long.

Step 4

Along the entire perimeter of the resulting polygon, add a seam allowance (1.5-2 cm will be enough).

Step 5

It will take you a little more time to draw a pattern for an armchair or sofa. You should also start by measuring the seat. In the drawing, it will be a rectangle. Then add the length of the cape from the seat down to the bottom of the figure. After that, determine the height of the arms of the sofa or chair, the thickness of their upper rib (armrest) and the length of the cape from the outside - it can reach the level of the seat or go down to the floor. By adding these parameters, you get the length of the rectangles that need to be attached to the drawing of the seat on the sides.

Step 6

Attach a measuring tape to the back of the sofa or chair by the seat and hold it up and then down the back to determine the desired length of the back cover. Mark this part of the pattern with a rectangle of the appropriate height. Add seam allowances to all sides of the pattern. Even in those parts of the cover that are not joined together by a seam, allowances are needed to tuck and hem the fabric.
