It is better to sew a cover on a sofa from a dense fabric. If you do not sit in this place often, then silk, flowing will do. In the latter case, a lining is needed, in the first case, you can do without it.
Thick fabric cape
Decide whether you will have a sofa cape with or without armrests. It is a little easier to do this without them, but then the armrests themselves will get dirty. These are the parts of the sofa that are most prone to dirt. It is easier to wash a cape than to do a general cleaning of a sofa.
To sew a simple cover, measure the length of the sofa. After that, determine how wide the bedspread will be. Place the beginning of the measuring tape 50 cm behind the back of this piece of upholstered furniture. Lower the meter to the seat, pass it through it, direct it to the floor. Look at the end of the mark that shows the desired length.
Transfer these two numbers to the fabric. Take a wide one so that one canvas is enough and there is no need to connect two cuts. Sew the edges on all sides. The sofa cover is ready.
Armrests, frill
If you want to make a cape for the armrests, measure their length and width. Cut 2 rectangles according to the resulting markings, hem the edges too. Put the cover on the sofa, and on the sides those parts that will cover the armrests. Pin them together with a pouch. Sew the joints.
You can make the armrests bulky. To do this, add 7 cm to their length. After you have done all the above operations, take a thick needle with a strong thread folded in half. Gather the front edge of the armrest, sew a few stitches to secure the effect. The product is ready. You will make it even more beautiful by sewing a frill to the bottom. Cut a strip to the desired length, which is 1.5-2 times the length of the sofa. Gather it on a thread with a needle or fold in the folds, sew to the bottom edge of the sofa cover. You can sew a ruffle around the entire perimeter of the sofa so that it covers the bottom of the back, from the sides and in front.
Quilted cape
You will sew a voluminous, lightweight, festive cover from silk, non-woven fabric with an adhesive base and lining fabric. Cut out the same parts from them as in the previous example. Armrests do not need to be done.
Carefully iron the silk with the non-woven liner so that the latter sticks and does not slide out. On the wrong side, attach and pin the backing fabric. Instead of non-woven fabric, you can use syndepon, then the bedspread will turn out to be more voluminous. Stitch the cover from the front. To do this, use a large ruler to line the surface into even squares or rhombuses and make lines according to the markings.
To hem the edges of the cape, cut the strips of the main fabric to a 2 cm width. You can use the tape. Attach the wrong side of the tape to the wrong side of the bedspread, sew together, making a 6mm seam. Iron it out, turn the tape over your face. Fold it over and sew to the front of the cape. Lay your creation on the sofa and listen to the praise and approval of your family. From the leftover fabric, you can sew pillowcases onto small decorative pillows and spread them out on the sofa.
