The author of the 2009 popular song Cry Cry is the German-American singer Oceana Mahlmann, known as Oceana.
Childhood and adolescence
Oseana was born on January 23, 1982 in Germany, in the city of Wedel. The singer's father, originally from Jamaica, was a popular DJ and musician, and her mother was a designer. As a child, the girl studied vocals and choreography. According to her, from a young age, a big fan of James Brown and Bob Marley, she honed her skills at home, imitating the singing manner of her favorite musicians, repeating the dance movements of her idols. At the age of five, she starred in a movie with the German director Lars Becker. At the age of fifteen, she won a music competition, the award was the opportunity to learn from the Italian singer Etta Skollo. The girl was the vocalist in the musical version of Eleanor Bergstein's Dirty Dancing. In the musical Aida by Tim Rice and Elton John, she played the role of Aida. She has successfully established herself as a dancer and dance director. In 2006, Oseana was the choreographer of the German hit break band Seeed.
Career
A particularly significant event in Oseana's biography was her work as a backing vocalist in the famous group of saxophonist and her family friend Maceo Parker, who was able to appreciate her excellent vocal abilities. But, since Oceana was striving for a solo career, she decided to leave Europe and went to the United States, hoping to become a star there. The singer's album Love Supply, released in 2009, brought her worldwide fame. At the same time, a number of scandals broke out around the name of Oseana: either the Kansas group was accused of plagiarism, then there were problems with the video for the song Fucked Up Situation, where elements of sadomasochism were seen. Nevertheless, a number of the singer's songs became very popular, including the composition Cry Cry, which rose to the leading positions of the Europe + radio charts and for which Oseana received the Eska Musik Awards. During her Love Supply tour, she performed at festivals such as Rock En Seine in France and Sopot International Song Festival in Poland. In 2009, the singer visited Russia, performed in Moscow, at the B1 Maximum club. In 2010, Oseana's popularity was further enhanced by her work as a presenter on the TV show ARTE Lounge on the Arte TV channel. In the same year, on Polish television, she took part in the program "Dancing with the Stars", where her partner was Premislav Yushkevich, the couple took 6th place. 2012 was also a very successful year for her career: she performed the anthem of the European Football Championship Endless Summer. And in the same 2012, the second album, My House, was released. In her work, Oseana uses various musical styles: here her Jamaican roots are clearly traced, soul and reggae are heard, somewhere jazz, but at the same time it is pop music. DJs often turn to the singer's multi-style music, creating club remixes.
Currently, the singer actively participates in various television shows, tours, releases individual singles, which, as before, are warmly received by her fans. Oseana is currently working in Los Angeles, preparing material for her third album, which was slated for release by the end of 2015, but the album was never released at the end of 2017.
