Vera Sotnikova was born in 1960 in Stalingrad, which was renamed Volgograd a year later. The family was a worker: father worked at a factory, mother at a telephone exchange. Together with Vera, her parents raised her older sister Galina. The girls were actively instilled with a love of art, visiting theaters and museums with them, reading poetry and stories together.
