Embroidered napkins look great both in the country house among old things, and in a modern city kitchen. Handmade, they can be a wonderful gift for a loved one.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a special napkin cross stitch kit. It includes a diagram, threads, a needle and a canvas with processed edges or a panel with canvas inserts. The design can range from a few crosses in the corner of the canvas to long stripes of ornament along the entire edge. Take a close look at the fabric, if there are special canvas inserts in it, find their middle by folding the material. Determine where the center of the pattern is in the diagram, and start sewing from there. Hide knots and thread ends as they can show through the fabric.
Step 2
Buy a plain linen or cotton fabric, wash, iron. Cut into squares of the required size, process the edges. Choose a small satin stitch motif, it may be different for each napkin. These can be flowers, fruits, or monograms. Insert the napkin fabric into the hoop so that one corner of the napkin is centered. Embroider the motif with satin stitch, make sure that it is directed to the corner of the napkin. If you want to embroider a motif with a cross, sew a special removable or dissolvable canvas into the corner of the napkin. When finished, pull out the threads or wash the garment in lukewarm water.
Step 3
Embroider the design on both sides with a large rectangular napkin. To do this, sew a piece of special removable canvas to each side, thread the material into the hoop and do the work with a counting cross. For such napkins, it is better to choose a geometric ornament or paths of large flowers and leaves. Decorate the edges of the napkin with a hemstitch or other fabric. Use the ribbon sewing technique to create a unique design.
Step 4
Use small pieces of canvas. Embroider small rectangular patterns on them, made in the same color scheme. Cut two or three strands back from the edge of the pattern. Arrange on a napkin in random order, carefully sew, remove excess canvas threads.
