Having mastered the basics of crocheting, many novice craftswomen are faced with a common problem - the impossibility of competently reading knitting patterns, without which it is often impossible to knit many different products, patterns and ornaments. The ability to read diagrams will open up ample opportunities for you - you can repeat any pattern and knit any thing according to the pattern. It's easy to learn the rules for reading diagrams.

Step 1
All have common features - in particular, the knitting direction of the first row goes from right to left by default, and transitions to subsequent rows in the patterns are marked with an air lifting loop.
Step 2
The end of the row in the diagram is indicated by an air loop, and if the diagram is too complicated and you can get confused in it, the rows in it are usually indicated in different colors.
Step 3
A rapport, or a repeating fragment of a pattern, is marked on the diagram with an asterisk. If the asterisks run horizontally, then the rapport is repeated across the width of the product. Count the number of air loops, depending on the density of knitting on your yarn.
Step 4
In addition, you need to know the conventions that mean certain actions in knitting - these are the designations of an air loop, a double crochet, a single crochet, purl and front loops, thread capture, repetitions, additions, decreases, gaps, connecting posts, and etc.
Step 5
The bottom row of the pattern is usually indicated by a chain of air loops - from which you always start knitting any product. Tie a chain of chain stitches, and then with a transition loop, start knitting the next row according to the pattern - for example, knit several single crochet in each air loop of the base, and then knit a chain of several chain loops.
Step 6
If there is a rapport in the pattern, knit the desired pattern, and then repeat the rapport the required number of times indicated in the knitting description, repeating the pattern enclosed inside the pattern in asterisks.
Step 7
At the end of each row, knit one chain stitch for lifting. Knit according to the pattern until the piece is ready.
