A spinning rod is a type of fishing tackle that consists of a rod, guides and a reel with a wound line. The name comes from the English verb to spin - "to spin". The fact is that earlier, when such a fishing tackle was just beginning to gain popularity, inertial reels were used, which rotated when casting the bait. Now anglers prefer to use the more expensive and complex, but much more comfortable and compact spinning reels that do not spin.

With the help of a spinning rod, you can fish at a much greater distance than with a conventional float rod. After all, a rather heavy bait - a spoon, a wobbler, a vibrotail, a twister, etc. - allows you to make a long cast. Spinning is mainly used for catching predatory fish - pike perch, pike, large perch, asp. It is often used as a bottom fishing rod for catching large fish that prefer to hide in holes, such as catfish or bream.

Modern spinning rods are light and durable, made of carbon fiber, fiberglass, metal. Most of the inexpensive spinning rods designed for the mass hobby angler have a telescopic rod design. That is, inside the thickest part of the rod, which is called the "butt", there are thinner parts, up to the opposite end, which is called the "tip". If necessary, they can be quickly pushed apart and rather rigidly fixed (due to the frictional force). In this case, the flow rings must be in one line. Those spinning rods used by high-level anglers are two- or three-piece and are, accordingly, more expensive.

Of course, absolutely universal spinning rods, equally suitable for fishing all types of fish in any water bodies, simply do not exist. When choosing this tackle, the angler is guided by the following characteristics: rod length, test, class and action. European manufacturers indicate length in meters, American manufacturers in feet and inches.

The rod test is the minimum and maximum weight of the lures that are recommended to be used. And the class of the rod directly follows from the test. There are four of them: ultra-light (test up to 7 g), light (from 7 to 15 g), medium (from 15 to 40 g), heavy (over 40 g). The action of the rod is a rather complicated definition, perhaps something between the flexibility of the tip (tip) and the rate of damping of oscillations after casting the bait. The stiffer the rod, the better the angler feels all the vibrations of the lure, but the shorter the casting distance it provides. Therefore, when choosing a spinning rod, it is best for an angler to take a model with a medium action.
