Biography

Jane Darwell was born on October 15, 1879 in Palmyra, Missouri. From an early age, the young lady showed a penchant for art, especially circus. Jane dreamed that someday she would certainly become a circus and be famous all over the world. However, her dream was not destined to come true - Darwell's father was categorically against the circus profession and gave his daughter an ultimatum.

Then the cunning Jane changed her mind and instead of the circus became seriously interested in the theater, firmly deciding to become an actress - this time, despite her parental discontent.

Career

For the first time, the aspiring actress performed on the stage of one of the Chicago theaters, and in 1913 she made her debut in a feature film. Jane Darwell turned out to be a talented and versatile actress, and therefore was of particular interest to directors and directors.

In the next few years, the actress stopped acting in the theater and went headlong into the cinema. In just two years, Darvell starred in almost twenty films and only then returned to the theatrical stage. In the next fifteen years, the actress played brilliantly on stage, never ceasing to win the hearts of fans.

In 1930, the actress played a role in the movie "Tom Sawyer" and from that very moment Darwell's career in Hollywood began. In 1940, Jane starred in The Grapes of Wrath and was soon nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.

Jane was happy, because her work was appreciated not only by the audience, but also by film experts who awarded the actress the most honorable awards.

Throughout her long career, the actress played in almost two hundred films and literally did not leave the screens in the period from the early thirties to the early fifties of the last century.

Jane played almost until the very last day of her life and was passionately interested in everything that happens in the art world. The talented actress passed away on August 13, 1967 in the suburbs of Los Angeles. She died of a heart attack at the age of 87 and was buried in one of the national memorial parks in Gleindale, California.
