Embroidery is an ancient art that has a huge number of styles and varieties. One of the most common and graceful types of embroidery is ribbon embroidery. Step 1
You can choose the fabric for work at your own discretion - ribbon embroidery looks beautiful and neat on any basis. The type of fabric and its color should correspond to the finished composition of the planned pattern. However, try not to choose fabric that is too dense and stiff, as it will be more difficult to pull the ribbons through such fabric. If you are using satin ribbons for embroidery, pair them with iris or floss, which work well for sewing stitches.
Step 2
Choose a fabric tensioning hoop that matches the size of the design you are planning, and also has a screw to adjust the fabric tension. As your main embroidery tool, you need a thick needle with a large, long eye. The tape should pass completely into the eyelet without creasing. To decorate the finished embroidery, use beads, rhinestones, sequins, lace and other accessories.
Step 3
Start by preparing the fabric - wash and dry the base fabric, then iron it with an iron. Take a piece of fabric that is large enough to stretch over the hoop and to fit the embroidery design freely. Transfer the pattern to the fabric in any convenient way, and then adjust the hoop and tighten the adjusting screw, evenly pulling and fixing the fabric.
Step 4
Iron the satin ribbons before work, and then cut into pieces of the desired length, cutting the end of each ribbon at an angle. Use the pointed end to insert the tape into the hole of the needle, and then pass the needle and tape from the inside out to the right side of the fabric on the hoop. There should be about 2cm of tape left on the wrong side. Sew the first stitch, bring the needle inside out and poke the remaining end of the tape to secure it.
Step 5
Pull the tape out to the right side while piercing the tail of the tape and the fabric. You can use a variety of stitches for this kind of embroidery, for example, the Forward stitch or Scatter stitch, which is analogous to the Forward needle stitch, in which the stitches are directed in different directions.
Step 6
To sew a straight ribbon stitch, pull the ribbon needle out to the right side and sew a few forward stitches. When sewing stitches, do not tighten the tape too tight. This stitch will look more unusual if you twist the tape on the right side before piercing the fabric again.
Step 7
You can also sew a ribbon stitch - for this, bring the needle out onto the face fabric, straighten the ribbon and bend it towards you along the length of the stitch. Then stick the needle into the center of the tape 3 mm from the fold and tighten the stitch. Decorate the finished embroidery as you wish.
