One of the main attributes of Halloween is the traditional pumpkin lantern. If you have nowhere to get a real vegetable, you can easily replace it with a paper model. There are several techniques for making paper pumpkins that allow you to create very original crafts.
Pumpkin from an old book
If you have an old unnecessary book at hand, do not rush to throw it away - this is an excellent material for making an original pumpkin for Halloween. First you need to carefully remove the cover from the book and make a "pattern" of the pumpkin. A contour of the desired shape and size is drawn on a sheet of paper, achieving maximum symmetry. The cut out blank is placed on the prepared book and outlined with a pencil.
With the help of a construction knife or sharp scissors, they begin to carve a pumpkin from the book pages. If the book is very thick, you can cut it gradually, grabbing 6-10 pages at a time. The peculiarities of cutting out a part from a book are that it is very important to try not only to adhere to the outlined contour, but also to gradually shift the cut line by 2-3 mm inside it. As you cut, unwanted portions of the pages are cut from the spine and removed.
After the pumpkin is carved, you need to glue the first and last pages of the book. The paper is coated with PVA glue or any universal glue, the sheets are tightly pressed against each other and smoothed. To give the form more stability, it is recommended to glue together a few more pages in the book. All pages are slightly pulled away from the binding and carefully straightened so that the pumpkin takes a rounded uniform shape.
The pages are colored with orange spray paint. Pages can be painted over in whole or in part by spraying paint over the surface of the pumpkin. After the dye dries, the stem is made. From a tree branch, thick wire or wooden barbecue skewer, make a pumpkin stalk of the required length and insert it into the middle of the book. It can be painted with green paint or wrapped with floral tape, and then attached leaves cut from paper. If it is not possible to cut the leaves, you can simply tie a green ribbon.
Pumpkin with surprise
Strips are cut out of double-sided paper of bright orange color, the width of which is 2-3 cm. To determine the middle, all the strips are folded in half, after which they are laid out in pairs. Each pair of strips is glued to each other in the form of a cross. After the glue dries, the paper blanks begin to be connected to each other.
The second, third, etc. are glued to the first pair of blanks, placing the strips in the form of a snowflake. For a secure connection, all workpieces can be stapled with a stationery stapler. A small surprise is placed in the center of the structure: a toy, candy, a chocolate bar, after which the opposite edges of the strips begin to connect to each other, forming a rounded pumpkin.
A narrow strip is cut out of a sheet of green paper and screwed onto a pencil in such a way as to form a spiral for the tail of a pumpkin. The tail is glued with tape to the top of the pumpkin, and the finished product is supplemented with leaves cut from corrugated paper.
