Potholders are a must in every home, in every kitchen. To make cooking a joy, and the appearance of the kitchen pleasing to the eye, you can make homemade knitted potholders that will decorate your kitchen and will be a useful household item for every day. You can crochet a variety of potholders - round, square, in the form of various fruits and vegetables or kitchen utensils.

Step 1
One of the simplest potholder schemes, which is also suitable for beginners, is the knitted muzzles of various animals. Having learned how to knit a base, you can easily come up with your own variations of such a potholder.
Step 2
Choose a yarn of the right color, for example, brown for the head of a bear, as well as a hook that matches the thickness of the thread. Tie a circle first. To do this, dial a chain of 5 air loops and lock into a ring. Tie 10 single crochet into this ring (this is the first row).
Step 3
Mark the beginning of the new row with a contrasting thread so that you do not get confused later when knitting circles. Then add 6 single crochets in each row. Thus, row 2 - 16 columns, row 3 - 22 columns, row 4 - 28 columns, and so on. Work as many rows as needed until the tack is the desired size.
Step 4
Tie the muzzle and eyes in the form of small circles according to the same pattern and sew to the head. It is better to make the eyes black, the muzzle the same color as the whole head or white. On top of the muzzle, you can also sew a black nose (also a knitted circle) or simply embroider it with black thread.
Step 5
To tie the ears, knit in the same way, but you should not get a circle, but a semicircle. To do this, cast on 3 air loops, then knit the first row - 6 single crochet in a ringlet. Next, knit in the same way as a circle, but turning the knitting when you finish knitting half of the circle. Thus, in each row, you should add not 6, but 3 loops. Having connected the two parts of the ears, sew them to the part of the head with a blind seam.
Step 6
When knitting, tuck the knots and thread ends to the wrong side. Cut the back of your oven mitt from a matching fabric. It is better if it is a cotton fabric that does not stretch (not jersey, for example, but coarse calico). Do not forget to leave about 0.7 cm along the edge for the hem when cutting. Fold in the edge and sew to the knitted part of the potholder with a blind stitch, or baste and stitch on a typewriter. The fabric back of the potholder will prevent the knit from stretching or curling.
Step 7
In the same way, by changing the color of the threads and slightly changing the shape of the muzzle and ears, you can knit potholders in the form of a cat, tiger, mouse and other animals.
