It is necessary

  • Guitar with holpeador for flamenco
  • Self-instruction book

Instructions

Step 1

Flamenco requires a special guitar. Its peculiarity is that it has a golpeador - a thin plate that is attached to the guitar deck. The musician hits the golpeador with his ring or middle finger on his right hand, or with his nails, thereby accompanying himself and adding interesting accents to the music. Without a golpeador, the soundboard will be damaged and quickly deteriorate, and the sound from the impact will be muffled.

Step 2

The flamenco musician needs to grow nails on his right hand. Many sounds are taken with nails, which are used as picks, so the string sounds more sonorous. Hits on the holpeador are also often performed with nails.

Step 3

The flamenco guitar during performance is positioned somewhat differently than for the classics. The guitarist sits on a chair, there should be no armrests on it - they will only interfere. The knees are about the same level as the seat. The back is straight, the shoulders are straightened, there is no need to throw the body back. The knees are slightly apart, the guitar is on the right thigh, the neck is pointed upward at an angle of about 45 degrees, so that its tip is approximately at the level of the head. The right hand rests on the body, she is holding the guitar. The elbow is free because some of the movements with the right hand are made from the elbow. If you are used to the position of the classical guitar, then at first you will be very uncomfortable, since the flamenco position is very different from the classical one. But soon you will get used to it and you will notice that it is really much more convenient to play flamenco this way.

Step 4

If you have the opportunity, study with a teacher. It is he who will help to take the correct posture, realize mistakes and suggest tricks and techniques. If you can't take lessons all the time, then at least a couple of introductory classes will help a lot. This option is possible if you have already mastered the classical guitar technique.

Step 5

Flamenco's sounding technique is also different from the classical guitar. Finger striking on countries is done in a slightly different way - perpendicular to the guitar deck, while in classical guitar the strike is parallel to the plane of the deck. This also takes some getting used to. Good sound will be an indicator that you are doing everything right. Sometimes the sound is produced by the pad and fingernail rather than just the fingernail - this allows for greater shade depth.
