Weaving is an ancient art, a penchant for which is in the blood of almost all women. Using different weaving techniques, you can create braids with different patterns and ornaments in any width, which depends only on your patience and the width of the loom. The easiest way to learn to weave is with an old instrument called the reed.

It is necessary

  • - clamp;
  • - ruler;
  • - threads of iris of different colors.

Instructions

Step 1

In order to weave a simple braid, prepare a clamp, a ruler and iris threads of different colors. Use three to four colors to make the tape striped - for example, red, black, yellow, and green. Cut 13 red strands, 12 black, 12 yellow and 12 green strands so that all strands are 70 cm long.

Step 2

Insert the red thread into the central hole of the foot, and then insert six more red threads to the right of the central hole, threading them both into the slots and into the holes alternately. To the left of the center thread, also thread six red threads symmetrically.

Step 3

Then insert two black threads on the left and right, thread the yellow threads on the left and right, six pieces each, and finally, the green threads, delimiting the green and yellow colors with black threads.

Step 4

Turn the reed towards you with the side on which the threads are shorter than on the other and align the ends. Tie the ends of the threads into one common knot. Fasten the knot with a clamp so that it is fixed firmly and securely, then carefully pull the threads towards you and tie a knot at the other end.

Step 5

Tie any lace around your waist, first introducing it into the space between the two parts of the threads, which will become more noticeable if you comb the threads with a reed. Insert a ruler into the space and lift the reed up so that there is a new free space in which you need to insert the weft thread (for example, black iris).

Step 6

Grab the thread with the fingers of your left hand and pull it into the throat so that there is a tip. Secure the thread by pulling the reed down. Now pull the weft thread back into the new throat and re-raise the reed to lock the threads.

Step 7

Continue to weave, changing the position of the loom, until the length of the braid reaches the desired length. Always tighten the weft thread so that the side edges of the tape are straight and neat.
