There are several ways to make homemade fish traps. Among them there are those that can be done in a few minutes, and those that are mounted within a couple of days. In any case, each of these devices does its job well. The biggest advantage of homemade fish traps is that they are easy to make and can be made from materials at hand.
The simplest fish trap
The easiest way to make a fish trap is from large plastic containers: 2-5 liter bottles. In order for the plastic to be not so noticeable in water, it must be thoroughly rinsed and dried well in the sun. In this case, the trap will perform its role more efficiently, since it will be almost transparent.
The bottle is cut so that two parts are obtained: the upper part with a neck 1/3 of the container high and the lower one, 2/3 high. The first is inserted into the second with the neck down. Then, in places where double plastic has formed, holes are made with a hot nail. A thin rope (sedge, rods) is inserted into them and both parts of a plastic bottle are fastened together.
To reduce the resistance of the trap when immersed in water, its bottom is pierced in several places. Then a rope is passed through a couple of holes, to one end of which a load is attached, and the other is taken to the shore. The bait is laid inside: fry, insects, bread, porridge, cereals, etc. So that large fish can penetrate into the container, the neck of the bottle is cut off, leaving a hole of the required diameter (on average, 20 cm).
How to make a hazel trap
For a hazel trap, it is best to use hazel branches. They are generally durable and flexible. But you can take the twigs of another tree. You need to remove the bark from the branches, bend it in the form of a hoop and fasten the ends with thread, fishing line or wire. Then the rods are well dried in the sun. To make a trap, you will need 6-8 such rings.
These parts should be of different diameters, since one of them will represent the bottom, the second - the neck. The spacer rings should be sized so that the trap is shaped like a cone with a truncated top. While these parts are drying, you need to prepare the rods for the sides of the structure, having previously determined its height. These branches are also sanded and left in the sun.
After 1-2 hours, they begin to weave the walls of the trap. Straight rods are alternately tied to the largest "hoop", gradually weaving the rest of the rings into the structure, the diameter of which is gradually decreasing. The bottom is intertwined in the same way. The frame made of branches does not have to be solid: you can leave gaps 2-3 cm wide. Through such holes, the fish will not be able to leave the trap. A bait and a load are tied to one of the branches at the bottom of the structure. Then the trap is ready to be immersed in water.
