Going to fish to a new place, many anglers dream of finding out in advance what is under water and where exactly the places of parking and feeding of aquatic inhabitants are located. In small areas of the reservoir, provided the water is transparent, this dream can partly come true. However, in most cases, everything that happens under water for the angler remains a mystery. The only exception can be called the case when one of the elements of the fisherman's fishing equipment is an echo sounder.

Step 1
Experienced fishermen determine biting places by many signs: bends and bends of rivers, the shape and length of the coastline, the boundary of aquatic vegetation, and eddies on the water surface. However, it may take several years to accumulate such experience, and each time you want to return from fishing with a rich catch immediately after buying all the necessary fishing equipment and the first attempts to get acquainted with the fishing art. A special device can help a beginner in this matter - an echo sounder, which allows you to learn in detail about any part of the reservoir, study the shape of its bottom, determine the depth and, most importantly, find places where fish accumulate.
Step 2
Fishermen who have never encountered this device mistakenly believe that they can see the bottom image, objects under water and fish in volumetric form with the help of an echo sounder. In fact, all information of interest to the fisherman is reflected on the screen of the device in the form of graphs and diagrams, the decoding of which gives the fisherman the answers to all his questions.
Step 3
Start the sounder and start moving slowly across the pond. The dashed line displayed on the screen of the device is the surface of the water. The picture on the bottom of the display shows the bottom topography. The current depth is indicated on most echo sounder models in the upper left corner.
Step 4
Keep in mind that when in automatic mode, the instrument always corrects the range. The fishfinder continues to operate even while stationary, so do not confuse the horizontal line shown on its screen, which most likely indicates constant depth, with a flat bottom. It is possible that you have dropped anchor on the slope.
Step 5
Most modern echo sounders are equipped with a fish recognition system, which allows the fisherman to see symbols on the screen that indicate the accumulation of fish in the water column, and not arcs, which can be mistaken for a change in the bottom topography, increased current and other factors.
Step 6
Remember to adjust the sensitivity of the device when fishing with a fish finder. If the value of this parameter is too low, the echo sounder will not show important information for you. If it is too high, the screen of the device will show interference and unwanted signals.
Step 7
Take care of your fishfinder. Do not allow it to come into contact with the propeller of a motor boat and do not rub the sensor against the bottom of the reservoir while approaching the shore. If the boat speed is too high, the fasteners may break. Store the fishfinder in a sturdy box with a lid or a specially designed shockproof box.
