Winter hunting has its own unique charm, but it also requires the purchase of additional accessories. Hunting skis will not only give the hunter the opportunity to move through the snow-covered space, but will allow him to climb into places where the path to which the hiker is usually closed due to impassability. A lot will depend on the quality of skis for hunting, so you need to be especially careful about their choice.
Instructions
Step 1
The first skiing in Russia can be found in chronicles dating back to the end of the 12th century. In those days, even warriors skied across the snow. Today skis are mainly used by sportsmen and hunters. Hunting skis should be wide and light, have sufficient safety margin, and provide quick and easy climb on steep slopes. Based on these conditions, the requirements for hunting skis are formed.
Step 2
The most durable skis are made from maple and birch, but spruce skis will have a slightly lower margin of safety. When choosing skis, you need to pay attention to the quality of the wood from which they are made. The slightest twig can greatly darken the joy of a future hunt. Hunting skis should be wide enough, because they have to carry not only the hunter himself, but also withstand the weight of the equipment and the shot game. But the length for them is an insignificant factor, moreover, you will hardly find hunting skis longer than 175 cm. It is understandable, on short wide skis it will be much easier for you to move through a snowy forest than on long and narrow skis.
Step 3
As an alternative to wood, you can consider plastic skis, they are light and comfortable, but they have their own characteristics. Plastic hunting skis are good in thaws, glide easily over melted snow, do not allow to fall through. But in cold weather, a hunter on plastic skis easily rolls back, while wooden skis keep him confidently in the snow. Therefore, it is better for a hunter to have two pairs of skis for different weather conditions or to soak wooden skis well with a special compound before going out on melted snow. The attachment for hunting skis should be soft, but strong, a soft leather belt 4-5 cm wide can become an ideal attachment. For movement over rough terrain, skis are used, glued with a seal skin or kamus. A hard pile will provide a confident climb uphill, will not allow the hunter to slide back. Correctly selected skis can literally become the key to successful winter hunting.
