At the international music festival "Eurovision 2012" Russia was represented by an ensemble from Udmurtia - "Buranovskie babushki". For many, this fact became shocking, there were both ardent supporters of the group and opponents. However, the "Babushki" collective demonstrated their talent, and, having performed brightly and incendiaryly, confidently won the second place.
The Buranovskie Babushki group was formed in 1970. At first, the artists performed only folk songs. Many other ensembles of folk music did the same, and "Buranovskie Babushki" were not very famous even in their region. But they found a way to engage their audience. The original approach to the organization of concerts and the repertoire allowed them to quickly gain popularity among the audience.
In 2008, "Buranovskie Babushki" included hits translated into the Udmurt language in their concerts. They began to perform songs of the groups "Aquarium", "Kino". The collective did not release CDs, but the audience recorded videos from the performances and posted them on the Internet. Soon after that, many already knew "Grannies".
But the artists did not stop there. Having put a stove at the House of Culture in which they performed, the old women treated the audience to pies with cabbage, mushrooms and meat, which they baked with their own hands. The audience was amazed, and the event brought "Granny" even more fame. Around the same time, pensioners began to perform foreign hits. Then the journalists became interested in them.
At Eurovision, "Buranovskie grandmothers" entered in the national costumes of Udmurtia, which included, among other things, a monisto - a decoration made of many coins. The spectators were fascinated by the unusual image of the "Grannies", many wanted to communicate with them, so the team even had to be taken under additional protection.
The song, with which the artists performed at the largest music festival, is called "Party for Everybody". She instantly became a hit, and in Baku, where Eurovision was held, she was sang for a long time in the streets. The audience sang along and clapped to the team, the applause was so strong that sometimes it sounded almost louder than the music.
Journalists note that the performance of "Buranovskiye Babushki" was one of the highlights of the festival. Most of the spectators listened to their song, rising from their chairs out of excess of feelings.
Only the Swedish singer Loreen managed to get around them, who sang a song called Euphoria. She took first place.
