In May 2012 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the main song contest of Europe Eurovision-2012 ended, the winner of which was Sweden. Russia took second place, losing to a few singer Loreen.

In the first semi-final of the competition, our participants, "Buranovskie Babushki", took first place, easily outstripping their rivals. And although they were declared the penultimate to the finals (arbitrary order of envelopes in the hands of the hosts), still 152 points is a significant claim for victory. The same thing happened in the second semi-final, where Loreen was the first.

At a press conference, one of the grandmothers admitted that they knew nothing about their competitor. There is nothing wrong with that, since finding out the strength of your rivals is not at all the tactics of the Buranovskiye Babushkas. They have no tactics at all, they just sing, love this business and put their soul into it, not paying attention to critics or other participants at all.

On May 26 at 23.00 Moscow time, all the finalists met in the last fight with their rivals. Russia was number six - a good position, you won't have time to get overwhelmed. However, our participants did not show it at all. “We didn't come to win. We had to perform well, and we coped with this work,” says the oldest member of the ensemble, Galina Koneva. And this is a good mood to perform!

The “grandmothers” were given special headphones, in which one could hear oneself and the music, as the rumble of the hall drowned everything out. Multiple rehearsals allowed me to get used to the new equipment, to the stage. It helped that the costumes were native (even bast shoes) and were greeted very cordially.

As a result, having gained 259 points according to the voting results and having received the highest score only from Belarus, "Buranovskie Babushki" took the second place. Loreen went ahead with a wide margin - 372 points.

After Eurovision, the participants from Russia hurried home, because their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and long-awaited vegetable gardens were waiting for them at home. Ahead - performances at other venues, participation in press conferences and the construction of a temple in his native village.
