In 2011, the duet “El and Nikki” from Azerbaijan won the popular Eurovision song contest, performing with the incendiary song “Running Scared”. Shortly before the event, which took place this year in Baku, there were serious discussions about who will now receive the title of the best performer.
A lot of bets have been made in favor of the UK and its representative Engelbert Humperdinck, who recently turned 76. He performed the song "Love Will Set You Free". It must be said that the age of the participants became one of the main criteria when trying to determine a possible winner. Thus, the Russian collective "Buranovskie Babushki", even before its arrival in Baku, aroused interest among the public, especially after journalists saw the performance of the song "Party for Everybody" by Russian artists.
Many of the competition observers were confident that Sweden would win. The singer Loreen performed for her with the song "Euphoria", which has already made a splash in various charts. And the Italian singer Nina Zilli with the song "L'Amore E Femmina" was chosen as a possible contender for the second place. The Irish duo "Jedward" and the Serbian performer Zeljko Joksimovic, in the opinion of the audience, could take the third or fourth place.
At the Eurovision 2012 contest, artists and groups from 42 countries were presented, each of which prepared a unique and colorful performance. The semi-finals were held on May 22 and May 24, which largely confirmed the expectations of the audience regarding the likely winners. The finale was broadcast on Saturday 26 May. According to the results of the audience vote, the first place went to the Swedish singer, whose performance scored 372 points. The second place was taken by the collective "Buranovskie Babushki" (259 points), and the third - by the singer from Serbia Zeljko Joksimovic (214 points).
