The spindle is a hand-held yarn spinning attachment that can be used to process small quantities of wool. The product is not used on an industrial scale.

How to make a spindle

It is necessary

  • - log;
  • - ax;
  • - knife;
  • - pencil;
  • - skin.

Instructions

Step 1

The material for the manufacture of the spindle is wood. A product made of any kind of plastic turns out to be too light and slippery, while metal, on the contrary, will create unnecessary stress, as a result of which the thread will constantly break.

Step 2

Prepare a log of the desired thickness and length, and sharpen a knife for cutting wood. Take care of the ax if the piece of wood is too large and you need to cut off a lot of excess material.

Step 3

Since the product is turned from one piece, use an ax to cut the log so that it resembles a cylinder, the length and width of which slightly exceeds the required dimensions of the maximum protruding parts.

Step 4

Take a knife and use it to correct the flaws, make the figure smoother. Be careful not to inadvertently cut off the excess. If in doubt, it is best to correct the figure while sanding.

Step 5

Use a pencil to outline the bottom base, which is usually a domed shape with a sharp top. Step back about 4-5 cm from the edge of the cylinder - this will be quite enough for a simple spindle of a traditional shape without carved patterns.

Step 6

Start carving the base of the dome so that its plane is perpendicular to the spindle shaft. In other words, an even cone should appear at the bottom.

Step 7

After grinding the bottom part, go to the main one. Mark the place that will protrude as much as possible. It should be in the immediate vicinity of the cone. Do not place it too high - step back a few centimeters from the so-called "waist". If we make the width of the spindle barrel equal over the entire interval of its length, then the thread will now and then slide off while working with the tool.

Step 8

Using a knife, remove excess material, make the top of the spindle pointed.

Step 9

When the product is ready, go over with a coarse sandpaper, and then with a fine one to finally polish the product - its surface should be perfectly smooth so that the thread does not cling during work.
