Sometimes we have a desire to do something with our own hands. For example, you can spin a thread from your dog's down, and then knit something and give it to a loved one. To do this, you do not need to spend money and buy a spinning wheel, the presence of a spindle is enough. For example, you can make a real Turkish spindle with your own hands.

It is necessary

  • - wooden block for a rod 300x15x15 mm
  • - two wooden bars for the cross, 135x25x25 mm each
  • - pencil
  • - knife for wood
  • - jigsaw
  • - drill / hand drill
  • - sanding paper
  • - stain

Instructions

Step 1

The Turkish spindle is a rod, expanding downward, with a cross fitting on it. A canopy is operated with a Turkish spindle. The smaller the Turkish spindle, the thinner the thread should be twisted. The good thing about the Turkish spindle is that after winding the thread, a finished ball is obtained. It is enough to remove the cross from the rod and pull out its two component parts one by one.

Step 2

First, let's pick up a tree. Linden is the softest in processing, followed by aspen and pine. Birch is several times harder. Try to scold a piece of the selected wood in advance in order to understand the volume and complexity of future work.

Step 3

For the rod of the Turkish spindle, take a wooden block without knots measuring 300x15x15 mm. The fibers of the wood should be located along the length of the workpiece. We will transfer the proposed drawing of the rod to each side of the bar and remove unnecessary parts, forming a rounded trunk.

Step 4

We do the same with the bars for the cross: we transfer the drawing and process with a knife. Since the cross is curved, you need to carefully cut the tree inside the deflection so that it does not inadvertently begin to delaminate or split off.

In order not to bother, you can make straight crosses of the same thickness and width and simply lay them on top of each other during use.

We make a slot in each of the two parts of the cross with a jigsaw, starting with drilling holes in the corners of the areas to be cut.

Step 5

In conclusion, we process the Turkish spindle with sandpaper to smooth out irregularities and roughness and, if desired, cover it with water stain. Making a spindle with your own hands is not so difficult, and then using it is a pleasure.
