Step 1
The process of creating a swag pattern begins with the purchase of working material for building a template. From the veil, you will make a test model on which you will form the folds. Then you can transfer the final version to the fabric you plan to sew from.
Step 2
The basis of an equilateral swag pattern is an isosceles trapezoid. You need to draw half of the trapezoid. Measure the height of the future swag. Lambrequins on windows in typical apartments are rarely sewn with a height of more than 50 and less than 30 cm. Let's take an approximate height of 45 cm. Since a swag is a semicircle with clearly laid folds, we multiply this height by the fold factor, which is equal to three. Therefore, 45 cm x 3 = 135 cm. This is the height of our trapezoid.
Step 3
The next value is half of the upper perkid, or ½ of the upper side of the trapezoid. Look at your window, imagine how many swags you need to arrange it, and what should be the approximate distance between the folds for each swag. With a swag height of 45-50 cm, the most organic looks like the width of the upper perekid equal to 30 cm. So, AB = 30 cm.
Step 4
The next point on the pattern is the depth of the first fold. This value is also taken arbitrarily, it is 5-7 cm. Mark point A1 on the drawing. Now you need to shift the total height of the swag to the depth of the first fold. Set point B1.
Step 5
Then determine the length of the swag sag. Take the cord and use it to model the overhang of the lower edge of the swag. To do this, simply attach the ends of the cord to the mounting plate. The deepest point of slack in the line should be 45cm. Do not forget, you yourself model the swag, and do it in accordance with your taste. Measure the length of the cord that dangled between the two pins. Divide it in half.
Step 6
Draw a perpendicular from point B. Set aside on it a segment equal to half the length of the cord, and you will get point D. Connect points B1 and G with a smooth semicircular line. Step 7
In order for the swag to drape well, it is cut out obliquely. Fold the purchased piece of veil at a 45-degree angle. Pin the pattern, placing line A1B1 along the fold of the fabric. Add 1 - 1.5 cm to the seams and cut out the desired part. Mark the middle of the pattern on the fabric.
Step 8
Make a mark on the mounting plate. Draw a straight line perpendicularly downward. Along this line, you will orient the middle of the swag so that there are no distortions.
Attach the top flap to the mounting strip with three pins, aligning the middle with the mark on the mounting strip. Stick in the outer pins, stepping back 7-9 cm from the edge of the fabric. Fold in the first fold and secure with pins on both sides. Line up the fold with your hands, making sure that the middle of the fold is exactly above the vertical line you drew. In the same way, fold the pleats along the entire length of the shoulder, securing them with pins. The approximate depth of each fold is 5-7 cm. Try to keep the folds equal.
Step 9
Take a couple of steps back to determine which shoulder you did best. Sew the folds on it with small stitches just behind the pins. Step back from the seam by 2 - 2, 5 cm, cut off the excess fabric. Remove the template from the mounting board. Remove pins and basting stitches. Fold the fabric over the center line and cut off the second shoulder so that the pattern is completely symmetrical. Unfold the fabric and iron it with an iron. Before you is a ready-made pattern-template of an equilateral swag. Using it, you will carve out as many swags as you planned in your lambrequin model. Now you can calculate how much fabric you need and go to the store.
