Despite the variety of modern materials in the furniture industry, body products made of chipboard (chipboard) do not lose their popularity. They are available to the mass consumer, and with proper processing and good care, they can last a long time. But no matter how you take care of your favorite cabinets and tables, sooner or later they will need repair. With a certain skill, the home craftsman can refine the chipboard and completely transform the old furniture.

Step 1
Repainting chipboard facades is an easy way to update cabinet furniture and give it an interesting design. So that the product does not look handicraft, it is necessary to painstakingly complete all stages of finishing work. First, prepare the surface for decorating.
Step 2
Clean the old paint and varnish layer from the board with emery or a special chemical remover. Then rinse the furniture with warm soapy water and dry.
Step 3
Find a primer in a building materials store that will increase the adhesion of the treated chipboard to the new decorative layers. It is recommended to use a universal acrylic primer (such as Primer Primer) - it is well suited for all difficult wood-based surfaces. You can evenly distribute the soil over the cleaned plate with a velor roller.
Step 4
Putty any cracks so that the furniture is perfectly flat. To do this, buy a composition suitable for processing particle boards. Usually the putty is sold ready-to-use, you just have to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Grind the leveled surface with a special float or block.
Step 5
Spray the chipboard in two coats, let the paint dry and apply a couple more coats of clear protective varnish.
Step 6
Renew the edges of the furniture fronts made of chipboard if necessary. They also need to be cleaned, leveled and putty before processing. After that, at home, you can glue the finished melamine or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) edge to the ends. Find a material that matches the tone of your furniture store. Heat the plates with a building hair dryer or just an old iron, then press them to the ends and iron them.
Step 7
Another option is a PVC furniture trim that can be slipped over the edges of countertops and cabinets with an overlap. For better fixation, place the material on the glue.

You can also refine chipboard with the help of various fashionable design solutions, such as artificial aging. To give the furniture a "touch of time", to do it stylishly and not to spoil the material, a special painstaking and good taste will be required from the master. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use two-tone colors.
Step 9
Cover the chipboard with a stain, then a darker color scheme. Use the brush to rub in, chaotic movements. Then dip it in a lighter paint and apply a second coat of strokes on top. This will give the old furniture an interesting texture. Noble "retro" stylized lacquer.
Step 10
Try more sophisticated and creative ways to remodel old chipboard furniture. Plates can be dismantled, cut out "windows" in them and decorated with stained-glass windows or wicker wicker.
