Napkins can be made from a material that is in harmony with other table linen. There are no specific rules regarding their size. You can sew not only simple napkins on your own. They can be decorated with scallops or decorative trim. Much depends on your imagination.

If you want to sew the simplest napkins, take the fabric left over from other products. The main thing is that their size is at least 30 x 30 cm. First, mark the fabric into squares of the required size. Don't forget to add three centimeters around the edges for the double hem. It is very important.

Then double hem on all sides and iron it. It remains to unbend the edges and bend each corner of the triangle along the first fold line. After that, cut off these triangles. Now fold the edges over the folds again and sew them with blind stitches by hand, or use a sewing machine. Iron the napkin.

More effort is required to sew the trimmed napkin. Prepare the base fabric, finishing fabric, and sewing tool kit in advance. Cut out a square-shaped flap from the base fabric and two trim strips. By the way, their length must necessarily coincide with the length of the side of the napkin plus two centimeters for the folds. You will also need to cut out two more finishing strips, the width of which will be 4 cm wider than the width of the napkin. Then fold the strips one centimeter from the wrong side and press the hem.

Unfold the shorter trim strips and fold right sides together. It remains only to chop them off, sweep and process them on a typewriter. The seams must be well ironed. It is recommended to cut off the protruding ends of the trim strips so that the trim does not look very bulky.

Longer trim strips should be spread around the edges of the other opposite sides of the napkin and sewn along their fold lines. Then fold the corners inward and cut the seam allowances. It remains to bend the finishing strips through the cut edges of the napkin, chop them off and sweep them away. Then the trim is sewn to the main fabric of the napkin with special blind stitches. Iron the finished napkin well. Here is the actual process of self-sewing napkins and completed. The main thing in the process is to do everything as carefully as possible. But for those who constantly sew something, this will not be a problem.
