Lambrequin is an elegant woven drapery on a window or door. With its help, you can bring special sophistication to the interior of the apartment. You can use draperies as a separate decorative element or come up with different combinations with curtains. To sew a lambrequin yourself, show your taste and imagination.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the right materials for the lambrequin, lining and piping. Experienced seamstresses advise choosing a dense, but fairly lightweight fabric for the base. It should be well draped. Choose the colors and combinations of the lambrequin with curtains individually. The amount of material depends on your tasks:
• A long lambrequin will visually reduce the high window.
• The window appears wider with a voluminous and lush drapery.
Step 2
Make the necessary calculations. To do this, measure the height of the window opening and the length of the curtain. Make a life-size lambrequin template according to the drawing, attach it to the curtain and attach it with tape. For symmetry, mark the center of the window. Usually standard lambrequins are made 1/6 of the curtains, and so that they recede from them by 5-6 cm from each edge.
Step 3
Make a lambrequin pattern (both the outer part and the lining) according to the pattern. You can use newspaper sheets glued together. Step back from the edge of the main part of 12-15 centimeters and draw an edging pattern at this distance. It is convenient to make all the details separately and number them.
Step 4
Cut out the front and lining pieces. Leave seam allowances of 1, 5-2 centimeters. The length of the edging strip should be equal to the length of the eaves and have a small margin on each side (in order to tuck its side edges).
Step 5
Fold the base of the future lambrequin and its lining with the outside inward and pin them together. Machine the bottom and side seams, leaving the top of the drapery open. To make the fabric fit better, you can make notches on the allowances. Sew on the top of the selected piping, then carefully iron all seams.
Step 6
Turn the finished product right side out and iron it. If you wish, you can decorate the pelmet along the bottom with a fringe or frill and drape it with a special braid. This will give your window a finishing touch and make it look particularly festive.
