Necessary materials and tools for sewing a dress to the floor
Prepare the material required for sewing. For a floor-length dress, chic silk fabrics with a noble shimmer, as well as lace fabrics, velvet, knitwear, chiffon, and so on are suitable.
As a pattern, you can use a pattern of any dress model, it will only be necessary to increase the length of the skirt. Measure this measurement by placing a tape measure along your torso from waistline to floor, while wearing shoes that will complement the look.

Features of tailoring a dress to the floor
Spread the fabric on a smooth, level surface. First, cut out the details for the bodice. Circle the piece with tailor's chalk and cut out, leaving 1 cm for all seam allowances. After that, straighten the material again and cut out the details of the skirt.
A dress to the floor should fit perfectly on the figure, so you must first sweep the details and make a fitting. Perform the work with a thin needle and thread so that no punctures remain on the fabric.
When trying on for the first time, check the fit of the bodice. Adjust the darts, shoulder and side seams. Sweep along new lines and try a second fitting. Refine the line for the neckline and armholes. Sew darts, side and shoulder seams of the bodice, sew in a hidden zipper if necessary.
Sweep the details of the skirt and sew it to the bodice of the dress. Do your third fitting. Refine the waistline and the length of the skirt. During this fitting, you need to wear shoes with which you will put on the dress to the floor. Fold the bottom of the skirt so that the hem is up to the floor line, or slightly more for a dress with a train. If you are sewing for yourself, then ask someone to help you, since it is rather difficult to do this work yourself. It is very convenient to carry out this stage of trying on a stand.
Stitch the side seams and sew the bodice and skirt joint. Fold the excess fabric along the bottom 2 times, first by 0.5 cm, and then another 1 cm and sew on a typewriter at a distance of 1 mm from the fold. Also, the hem can be trimmed with a bias tape to match the material or with a narrow zigzag stitch.
Last but not least, trim the neckline with piping. Decorate the floor-length dress to your liking with embroidery, rhinestones, beads, sequins and so on.
