Artistic woodworking has been placed on a grand scale in Russia since ancient times. Numerous traditions that have survived to this day were used to paint dishes. Gorodetskaya and Khokhloma are some of the most popular.
It is necessary
- - paints (depending on the technique - gouache, acrylic or others);
- - a piece of wood;
- - several types of sandpaper;
- - sketchbook;
- - brushes of different sizes;
- - pencil;
- - palette;
- - varnish.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a look at a few examples of working in different techniques. Explore shapes and colors. If possible, visit an art school dealing with a particular type of painting. An experienced teacher will tell you how to mix paints correctly, decorate underpainting, prepare wood for processing, etc.
Step 2
Master the basics of the technique by drawing them on paper. At first, just repeat the elements that you see in other works. Take your time, watch for quality, not speed. The thing should serve you for a long time, it will be a pity for the effort spent if you make a mistake when applying the picture.
Step 3
Practice composing. Trace your cutting board on a few sheets of paper. Draw on each pencil sketch of several options for the future ornament. Try to fill the space evenly.
Step 4
If the technique implies that the background will not be white, then apply the appropriate color to the sketch and wait until it dries. Go to staining only after this stage. Thanks to this trick, you will not have any problems with the color combination in the finished drawing. For example, in Gorodets painting, the background is always pale yellow. Because of this, purple is undesirable (it will look sharp), but reds, blues and greens combine well.
Step 5
The workpiece is processed in several stages. Soak it with a moderate amount of water and wait for the board to swell slightly and look dry. Go over it with coarse sandpaper. Repeat two to three more times, each time reducing the grit of the sandpaper. Then paint the board with a special base paint (usually yellow) and sand again.
Step 6
Apply the drawing to the board first with a pencil, then with paints in several layers. Wait until the previous coat is completely dry before applying each new coat. Then leave the board to dry completely overnight. Make sure that the paint does not crack, do not place the board next to the battery.
Step 7
The varnish is also applied in two or three layers. This stage is carried out in a ventilated area, away from sources of fire. Wait at least 12 hours between each coat. Make sure that the surface is not dusty. After the last layer, wait a day.
Step 8
Lay the board in a patterned pattern on the worktop, with meat or vegetables on top. You can cut on the board you painted.
