Step 1
In order to make a do-it-yourself cutting board decoupage, carefully prepare the surface. Check the board for roughness and cracks. Smoothen roughness with fine emery paper. Treat cracks with wood filler. Wait for everything to dry. Treat with putty, wipe with a damp cloth. Apply white primer to your decoupage board. It is convenient to do this with a sponge used to wash the dishes. The sponge must be dry. Apply the primer with a stamping motion. To avoid getting your hands dirty, fix the sponge with a regular clothespin. After the primer is dry, apply acrylic varnish to the board.
Step 2
Find a napkin for your cutting board decoupage. If you are doing decoupage for the first time, take a napkin with a white background. Pull the motif out of the napkin. Place the front side of the file on top. Apply some water diluted with PVA glue on top. Spread out the napkin so that it is completely moistened. Get rid of wrinkles and excess water. Place the file on the board. The file should be on top, with a napkin on the board. Press down on the napkin, use a soft cloth napkin for this. Uncheck the file. The napkin should remain on the cutting board. After the decoupage napkin is dry, apply acrylic varnish to the cutting board.
Step 3
In order to make a beautiful decoupage of a cutting board with your own hands, use painting on the motif with acrylic paints. Lay out the colors you need on the palette. To remove excess brightness, add white and black acrylic paint. Mix on a palette until you get the shade you want. Apply with a brush, highlighting individual areas. Scrub the edge of the cutting board with a dry sponge and a little dye. Try on paper first, then apply to the board.
Step 4
After everything is dry, apply acrylic varnish. Use various elements to decoupage the cutting board. It can be lace bows, raffia, satin ribbons.
