Lata Mangeshkar is one of the most respected and titled singers in South Asia, especially India. Biography
Lata was born in the traditionally large family of Dinanata and Shevanti Mangeshkar in September 1929. She was the first child, later four brothers and sisters of Lata were born, who then chose a musical career for themselves. Father Dinanat was an opera singer, and my mother often sang folk songs in different dialects.
At the age of five, the father took his daughter to the stage as an actress in his musical plays. Lata had a great voice and perfect pitch, and she loved to sing so much that even on the first day at school she began to teach vocals to other children. And when the teacher stopped the girl, she got angry and refused to go to school.
Carier start
When Lata was 13 years old, her father died of heart disease. Shevanti was left alone, but the family had a close friend and patron, the owner of the film company and the famous director Vinayak Damodar Karnataka. It was he who did not let his friend's children go to waste and helped them all get a musical education. And Lata also became an actress.
The first film in which the clear and clear voice of Mangeshkar sounded was Gajaabhaau (Destiny) in 1943. In 1945 Vinayak moved his headquarters to Mumbai and Lata moved in after her named father. There she began taking classical music lessons from Ustad Aman Ali Khan and continued to sing voice-over songs in films.
Lata made her debut appearance on the screen as an actress in 1945. Together with Sethsra she played in Vinayaka's film Badi Maa. And in 1948, the patron died, but Lata by that time was already a popular singer. Beautiful girls danced on the screen, and the magic voice of an amazing singer sounded against their background. After Vinayak's death, Lata became the favorite performer of the legendary Indian composer Gulam Haider.
Mature years
In order to perform songs cleanly and beautifully, Lata not only took vocal and music lessons, but also diligently studied various dialects and foreign languages. By the sixties, she was already well-known and respected, the directors of the films in which Lata was to sing were considered her opinion. And at the beginning of 1962, the singer found herself in the center of a real thriller - she was poisoned, and, as the doctors later said, she had been receiving poison for quite a long time. The cook from the wealthy house of Lata disappeared after the singer's hospitalization, and the police threw up their hands. After that, many celebrities literally settled in Lata's house, who personally tasted all the food before giving it to the singer.
She also sang several songs for films in the Marathi language, written by famous composers such as Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Vasant Prabhu, Srinivas Hale and others. Against the backdrop of the Sino-Indian War, Lata sang patriotic songs.
In the seventies, Mangeshkar toured extensively abroad, causing admiration and gaining fans, she became the first singer from India to perform at London's Royal Albert Hall. In the eighties, Lata was actively involved in charity work, collecting fabulous sums at her concerts.
Present time
Lata's work includes more than 1500 films, several albums and stage performances. After receiving India's highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna, the singer founded a modern hospital run by her family's foundation. The development of a jewelry collection for the Indian diamond company Adora earned her a large sum, which Lata donated to help eliminate the aftermath of the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. By the way, one of her songs sounds in the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
Lata is still involved in social activities, has great influence in Bollywood.
